#glaze tests

In today's video, I will be testing micro cerulean from Mayco Colors. All around this glaze is a denim blue that ranges from satin to glossy with varying degrees of crystal formation and crystal distinguishment from clay body to clay body. This glaze is mostly stable, with only a slight bit of downward motion that seems to pool more than run. If application is overly thick, I could see there potentially being running if you pushed the pooling over its gravitational limits. I fired my tiles on a straightforward ramp up, and natural cool down without hold. Due to the nature of crystalline forming glazes, you may be able to get more or less crystal growth with adjustments to holds and cooling speeds. This glaze performed well, though with slightly varying results across all the clay bodies I have tested today. The lovely color, stability and snowflake crystal formation make this a glaze that I am sure you can make use of in your own studio on non-food contact surfaces. Thanks for tuning in this week. In today's video, I will be testing micro jade from  @MaycoColors . All around this is a green hued crystal forming glaze that ranges from satin to matte depending on the clay body, and likely the firing temperature. The crystals tend to be a golden color, and seem to form best on smooth surface portions of work. The glaze is slightly fluid, though I did not find it to be excessively runny. In areas where this glaze pools, it tends to make a dark, almost metallic satin. It looks great on the black stoneware testing today, giving unique metallic results. Overall, this is a glaze that is going to require each person to do their own testing, as the results can vary quiet a bit based on the underlying clay body, application, and firing cycle. Many of these factors are going to be unique to you and your studio. After some testing, I am sure that you will find ways to make use of this glaze in your decorative or sculptural work. Amaco velvet underglazes, electric blue, teal, and turquoise and combinations thereof. \/ indicates combination of above colors (combinations appear very similar to one another in color, sort of denim blue). Double lines on central test areas indicate overlay of same 3 underglazes in same order. Turquoise + teal appears very similar to plain teal.

Amaco watercolor underglazes, sets 108 and 111.

Top: blue green, black, maroon, with white on top (half with clear glaze). Underglazes appear to be mostly opaque on top of one another. Some trouble with white smearing under clear glaze.

Bottom left: wc underglaze, dark blue (appears light purple without clear on top), rest of 108 palette. Good gradation between yellow and green, green and blue-green unfortunately seem to become muddy when mixed. Blue green appears to fire dark. White is largely invisible on white clay.

Bottom right: same as above with dilution and stippling tests.
