Built in 1561 ‘Cromwell's Bridge, Glengariff. Pont de Cromwell, Glengariff. Cromwell's Brűcke bei Glengariff.’ was named as such when in 1648 Oliver Cromwell led his parliamentary army of 8,000 troops over the River Hodder from Gisburn to battle the King’s army at The Battle of Preston. This bridge still stands; however, it is no longer in use. The Lower Hodder Bridge was built very close by in 1819 as a crossing point of the Hodder river. This print was drawn by William Henry Bartlett and engraved on steel by J. C. Bentley for "The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland" by Nathaniel Parker Willis and J. Stirling Coyne. It was published by George Virtue of 26 Ivy Lane, London in 1842. This print measures 7 7/8 x 10 3/4 inches.
