Global Spectrum Provides Profit Of $510,505 To Polk County For Fiscal Year 2012-2013 Operation Of Iowa Events Center
“The Iowa Events Center continues to be successful through the professional management of our partner Global Spectrum,” said Polk County Board of Supervisors Chair, Tom Hockensmith.
From July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013 the Iowa Events Center hosted 483 events. Concerts included Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney, Bob Dylan, Def Leppard, Carrie Underwood, Fleetwood Mac, Alan Jackson and many more. Other successful events held at the facility included the 2013 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, AQS National Quilt Week, Iowa State Pool Players Association Tournament, and Iowa's Premier Beer, Wine and Food Expo presented by Hy-Vee. In addition to trade and consumer shows, the Iowa Events Center saw impressive growth in corporate banquets and wedding receptions.
“The Iowa Events Center continues to see a dramatic increase in the total number of short term corporate events and weddings, thanks in large part to the newly renovated space at Veterans Memorial – Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center,” said Global Spectrum’s Chris Connolly, General Manager of the Iowa Events Center. “We are looking forward to hosting another strong year of concerts and family entertainment along with many exhibitions, consumer shows and conventions.”
During fiscal year 2013-2014 Wells Fargo Arena will host three tenant teams, including the Iowa Wild (AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Minnesota Wild), the Iowa Energy (NBA D-League affiliate of the Bulls, Nuggets, Timberwolves, Wizards and Pelicans) and the AFL Iowa Barnstormers. In addition, the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic will return on December 7, Iowa High School State Wrestling and Girls and Boys Basketball return, along with a full schedule of concerts and family shows. On the convention center side, AQS National Quilt Week returns along with the Iowa Power Farming Show, Iowa Pork Producers, Des Moines Home and Garden Show and many more events.
Prior to the construction of Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall, Polk County subsidized the operations of Veterans Memorial Auditorium and the Convention Complex at over $800,000 annually. Since engaging Global Spectrum to manage/operate the Iowa Events Center facilities, Polk County has provided minimal subsidy for the entire complex (Hy-Vee Hall, Wells Fargo Arena, and Veterans Memorial – Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center).
Global Spectrum's Chris Connolly, General Manager of the Iowa Events Center, presents Chairman Tom Hockensmith, Polk County Board of Supervisors, with a check for $510,505 to Polk County in profit from Iowa Events Center operations during Fiscal Year 2012/13.
