Cards
It just so happens to be @ophelia-incarnate‘s birthday and they just so happen to really like Gueulemer and Glorieux, so: Happy Birthday Jaz, have some Patron-Minette <3
"You're cheating."
"Nope, only counting, keep up."
Gueulemer makes a frustrated noise at the back of his throat and waves at Glorieux to deal a new round of cards.
Claquesous has been quietly watching them ever since they came in. He didn't bother to make his presence known when they did and neither of them has noticed him so far. They're too engrossed in their card game, both sitting cross-legged on the floor in an odd mirror position between Gueulemer's large frame and Glorieux's more stocky one.
It's kind of fascinating, Claquesous thinks. He's never seen Gueulemer so tolerant of being instructed. Mer isn't slow, but he's impatient. His temper acts up when he feels he doesn't pick something up fast enough and frustration pretty much destroys his attention span. Which makes it particularly extraordinary that Glorieux has managed to command his attention for as long as he has. With the way he's taunting Mer in between explanations, Claquesous kind of expects him to get punched any minute now. But so far, nothing.
He watches Glorieux lay out the cards in demonstration, going fast enough to make Gueulemer curse at him to slow down. His concentration is not wavering though, he really wants to learn this. Or...
Claquesous smirks at his own thoughts. If he didn't know any better, he'd think Gueulemer is refusing to give up because he wants to impress Glorieux.
They play another game, going faster and faster until Glorieux suddenly snaps: "How the fuck did you do that?"
Gueulemer grins. "What, too busy with your damn counting to watch my hands?"
There's a beat of silence.
"Bastard." Glorieux snatches one of Mer’s broad wrists in an attempt to find the cards that Mer snuck out of the deck, but Gueulemer doesn't even have to exert hinself to fight him off. Glorieux is an excellent fighter, but when it comes to raw strength Mer has him beat easily.
"It's all cheating," Gueulemer taunts, flicking cards in Glorieux direction.
"Ass," Glorieux snorts, but he's nearly smiling. Claquesous has half a mind to get his phone out to film.
"Am I interrupting something?"
Gueulemer and Glorieux couldn't have broken out of their good-natured scuffle faster if they had heard a gunshot.
Montparnasse is leaning elegantly in the doorway, watching both of them with suspicious amusement. "Should I come back later?"
"Fuck you," Gueulemer grunts, and Glorieux, rather more composed, says:
"Small disagreement over a card game, that's all."
"Clearly," Montparnasse says meaningfully and he walks past where they're sitting on the floor. His eyes sweep the room and a smirk tugs on one corner of his mouth as his eyes meet Claquesous'.
"Oh," he hums casually. "Hi, Sous."
Glorieux and Gueulemer spin their heads so fast it looks like they might snap and Claquesous can't quite remember the last time it cost him this much effort not to laugh out loud.
