WHO LOVES A RED LIP?? I know I do, not necessarily on myself but I love to create red lips and love to see other people with a vibrant red lip. Today I am going to be sharing some of my top tips on creating a clean red lip. Images below, makeup by me. Left image taken by me, right image Sandra Vijandi. 

When working with red lips it can understandably be tricky, red shows up every flaw so no room for errors. Actually red is one of the best colours to practice your line work with.  TOP TIPS WHEN WORKING WITH RED Be sure the lips are properly exfoliated and hydrated before applying any lip products.  Always neutralise the lips with a little concealer or foundation.  I do not always use a lip liner, if I do I use a nude liner to fill the whole lip in starting in the middle of the lips and working outwards. Some people use the cupids bow as a starting point which is also fine. I sometimes use a red liner to go around the edges if it is needed when I have finished. (not always necessary)  When working with red always start your applications in the larger areas of the lips, so the middle of the lips and work your way outwards. Once the larger areas are filled you can then concentrate on the edges.  When working on the edges make the brush work for you, switch the brush so you are able to use the edges of the brush along the edges of the lips.  Be sure to work upwards, so start in the corner of the mouth and bring the brush upwards to the cupids bow, still on the edge and still using the edge of the brush. I love the below brush, I tried to find this for you but I did not have much luck. I got 3 of these from CrownBrush years ago. Square shaped brushes are also very good for the lips such as this Rae Morrie brush  

When working on the lower edges of the lips, start in the inner corner of the mouth and bring the brush down to the bottom of the lip, again using the side of the  brush for definition.  In doing this you will not need to use a lip liner to neaten the edges, manipulate the brush in different ways to get the best from it.  You can use a little concealer on a brush to go around the edges afterwards to make the lips pop more, again not always necessary. You can also pat a tiny little bit of powder around the lips to seal it in, but be careful on older ladies as to much will settle into the lines, not a good look. Apply a little gloss in the middle of the lips for a youthful finish.

One of my newest additions is the Charlotte Tilbury Red Carpet Red as featured in my recent lip shoot.  Although it states it is matt, is very hydrating and leaves a littler sheen to the lips.  We then have an old classic of mine, this is a beautiful brick deep red Velvet Matt Cruella by NARS

Kryolan High Gloss, great to add over any red lip you do, we have shade Vamp and a clear gloss in shade Crystal Rose Last image you can see the Red Carpet Red in all it's glory, alongside another favourite of mine which is Kate Nude.
