So Lo posted this video on the 2nd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VcVOiIJ4Frc and this is my response for it.
I actually was thinking about perspective this week, not only because of the hurricane, but because of one of my courses. I'm in a class called "Media, Messages, & Society", and we recently started a unit on journalism. On Thursday, we watched a documentary about women journalists who went into war-zone journalism, to help advance women journalists. It was awe inspiring in the sense that the whole thing filled me with amazement that these women were willing to put their lives on the line, in order to get their stories. Their hope wasn't for glory or a raise or a promotion, but the hope that one person might see the report and decide it was time for a change. The whole thing broke my heart, because they give up everything: their lives, their significant others, their families, so they can share these stories. It made me feel a little selfish, because these women weren't resentful or anything: they did it all out of the passion for their work and the people they say suffering. Their selflessness made me more than thankful for all that I have, and has me thinking about what I can do to try and make a change in the world.
