Krewella - Killin' It Just like that GLOW April lineup!!
So it's been a little while since I've posted on the blog, and what better opportunity to make a re-entrance than this snow day mother nature has granted us. Up and coming dub house act Krewella has created a style all their own, with tracks with more of a progressive house vibe like 'Alive,' and more dub-based sounds like in 'Killin' It.' Irregardless, Krewella's distinct stylistic approach can be heard in every track they release. Seeing them for the first time at Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta in a week will truly be a legendary experience. And the best part of it all: like Krewella, GLOW's April lineup is KILLIN' IT!

Emma Hewitt - Rewind (Mikkas Remix) Fantastic vocals centered around potent progressive trance
The first time I heard renowned vocalist Emma Hewitt, it was with Dash Berlin a few years ago on his single 'Waiting.' To hear her now as such an accomplished vocalist who regularly accompanies the best names in electronic music, even releasing noteworthy singles of her own such as this one, is something I have a ton of respect for. Not to mention the superb job young Danish up and comer Mikkas does with this high-energy, widely known remix. Say what you want about trance and progressive's popularity being pushed to the wayside by house, but this is a clear example of the fact that there are still some outstanding progressive/trance productions out there.

Madeon - Pop Culture Not bad for a kid who produced this before he could set foot in a club, eh?
This week I've decided to focus all my postings on a topic that doesn't receive nearly enough attention in the electronic community: mashups. I'll talk a little bit more about them and why they're so important as the week progresses, but for now, we'll start you all off with compilation of 40+ tracks squeezed into a 3.5 minute time block. Are they all 'pure EDM' tracks? No - and EDM is a term I've been trying to erase from my vocabulary but that's a topic for another time. But is this a true work of art? You bet your ass it is. So expand your horizons a bit and realize that there are other genres of music outside of electronica, and enjoy this masterpiece that this young French phenomenon has left us.

Chris Lake & Michael Woods - Black Thong (Radio Edit) Sure to make any crowd go ham
So this Friday, I made my first-ever venture to Super GLOW and saw Avicii at the Armory with 10,000 incredibly enthusiastic people. Needless to say, it was a life-altering experience. As I recap Super GLOW weekend and look at the unbelievable wave of talent coming through the District over the next couple of months, I pump this potent banger through my skimpy 50W computer speakers and think to myself 'This simply doesn't do this track justice. When's the next time I can GLOW?' Glow vet Chris Lake and electro house authority Michael Woods team up to concoct the best of progressive and electro and squeezed it into a modest 3.5 minutes. So, I'm left as an insomniac, with this phenomenal melody on repeat, looking forward to what GLOW has in store the next couple of months (click here for a complete schedule.)
