If Shiori were to be completely honest with herself, she would easily admit she didn’t understand the appeal of the pungent Luwak coffee she always brewed for the one she loved, but still she did so with a smile nonetheless. In fact, she didn’t understand the appeal of most bitter drinks; when ordering her own coffee she preferred the smooth sweetness of a white chocolate raspberry mocha with a hearty helping of cream and sugar, more milk and fruit than the bitter beans. Perhaps her taste buds lacked that extra sense of refinement needed to appreciate such luxuries–but of course, each person’s preferences were different, and she had no right to judge…
…But this batch of Luwak was absolutely disgusting. Yes, supposedly it was a delicacy, but her nostrils flared and burned as the stench entered her nose, her bright green eyes watering slightly. It was all she could do not to gag as she poured the warm beverage into a thermos and shook her head, wondering how on earth it was appetizing, let alone edible. So lost in thought that she didn’t notice the footsteps approaching her from behind, she hesitated for a split second and added the tiniest pinch of sugar in the hopes of sweetening the both the coffee and the one who would drink it–and as she turned around to find the source of the sound she nearly spilled it all over in surprise, the liquid sloshing around but somehow remaining in the cup, nothing short of a miracle. Perhaps she should have put the lid on, first…
“A-Ah! I-I’m so sorry…I didn’t see you there…”
