“It’s nice to meet you as well! And really, you’re welcome!”

She let out a small giggle as he thanks her, watching as he gathered up his belongings, stepping in herself and picking up some book for him.

“Here- I’ll help–”

There was no point in letting him carry around so many things with an injury after all! Smiling, she then motioned for him to follow her, making her way out of the library and towards the nurse’s office.

Satoshi smiled, thankful for her added help. Maybe if everyone was as nice as her, he really would have a nice time here.

“Ah, thank you! I wouldn’t want to get any blood on anything.” That already happened too much as it was. He obviously seemed to have a problem with hurting himself while carving as indicated by all the bandages on his hands.

Satoshi followed Faye out of the library. Thankfully, he seemed much happier than he’d been earlier.

He’s heading through the library, just picking up something small for class but he notices someone doing…something at one of the tables. He walks over to get a closer inspection of what he’s doing when- oh. Ow. That looked like it hurt.

“Are you okay?”

Satoshi sniffled, feeling tears forming in his eyes.

‘First I cut my thumb and now this stranger is going to see me crying over it. Could this day get any worse?’

He turned to his fellow student and wiped his eyes, trying to look like less of a mess…if that was even possible.

“I-I just cut my thumb…I think I need a bandage but I’ll be ok I think.”

Oh and he’s. Crying…Yikes now he’s gotten himself into this mess he can’t get out of. “Uh- Do-do you ne-nn-need to go the nu-nurse for one?” Though considering the amount of bandages this kid had on his hands he probably just carries them with him.

Satoshi sniffled, his crying finally starting to die down. The carver nodded at the question.

“That...would probably be best. I recently ran out of bandaids...I don’t know where the nurse’s office is though. I’m sort of new here.”

Satoshi put his finger up, about to say something along the lines of “Don’t knock it till you try it!” but…decided quickly that that was probably not something she cared to hear. When the carver saw her crumple up the paper and throw it down though, he got a tad antsy.

‘Are they going to blame me for that? I hope not…’

Her next words led him to look at the poor wall he had just stabbed with a staple.

“I-it was an accident.” He paused for a moment before looking at the wall quizzically. “Well…now that you mention it…they probably could have used a paint color that’s easier on the eyes.”

No Satoshi…that is not what she was getting at.

“Yeah, I realize. I’m givin’ you a hard time, boy.” The student huffed, crossing her arms over her chest and resting her back against the wall.

She was looking down at the crumpled piece of paper, and she moved it around with her feet before kicking it straight down the hall— tap. There was a silence between the two for a moment. 

When she finally looked up at the boy again, her scarlet eyes caught the light coming in through the high windows in the hallway. 

“I’ve been gone for a couple of months, and I’m coming back to the same eyesore of a school, same clustered posters. They should really find someone taller to hang them up… Someone like—” The sentence cut off. She retracted a hand to meet her forehead. Her small face scrunched up as if she was in pain. “Who… Who are you again? I don’t recognize you.”

He blinked, letting her words set in for a moment. 

“Ah, I see.” He felt slightly embarrassed, finally realizing her earlier intentions. “I do suppose I can be a bit dense at times.” He assessed the situation for a moment, watching as she kicked around the crumpled paper. Now that he saw her a bit closer he realized that she seemed...injured. Something was wrong. He locked eyes with her when she started speaking. The carver nodded at what she said. While he was new here, it seemed like multiple people had some issues with the monotony of their school lives.

He grew concerned when the girl held her head. How bad were these injures of hers?

“I’m Satoshi Ki. I’m new so it makes sense that you don’t know me. Um...are you alright? You look like you’re in pain. And...I don’t know your name either.”

“I-It’s fine.” 

“It’s a PlayStation.” He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world but, a bit of amazement managed to slip in. How could he not know what this was?

Satoshi blinked a few times, looking at the other boy for a few moments.

“Um...I’m sorry but what is that?” He started to feel a bit embarrassed about not knowing what this thing was. Was it really that obvious?

Satoshi was standing in the hallway outside of is room, a look of pure befuddlement on his face. His aunt had just sent him a gift from home but…he had no idea what these things were. As it turns out, it was 2 gaming systems placed in a cardboard box with all their wires and parts. This confused him though as he had never seen a gaming system. The carver looked around him and spotted another person coming by.

“Hello, could I ask you a question? What are these…contraptions!?”

He stopped and looked around, making sure he was talking to him.

“U-U-Um, I-I g-guess.”

 He looked down into the box carefully, as if whatever was in it was going to attack him. He sighed when he saw it was just a Playstation. Wait. This guy didn't know what it was?

“Y-You d-do-don’t w-what t-th-this is?” He asked in disbelief.

Satoshi looked back down at the box. He had no clue but there WERE a lot of wires…

And then he gasped in horror, bringing his hands up to his face.

“I-it’s not a bomb is it?” He asked. And then in a more hushed tone (talking to himself this time) he whispered, “I always knew they’d come back, and they definitely used my aunt’s name to trick me, and they probably have my aunt, and, and.”

And now he was freaking out.

He blinked. How did he come up with that idea? Oh, great now he had him freaking out. He felt bad, he didn’t mean to scare him. He only caught a few words on what he was mumbling about, mostly just aunt.

“H-Hey, c-calm down. I-It’s not a bomb.” He said calmly, hoping it would take effect.

Satoshi blinked a few times, letting the other boy’s words register. And then he sighed, realizing how foolish he’d been.

“I’m sorry, of course it’s not. I definitely over-reacted there.”

Great how embarrassing. That was the worst first impression he’d made by far. Hopefully he could redeem himself.

The carver looked back down at the box, a quizzical expression surfacing.

“Well um...what is it then?”

Satoshi’s eyes lit up when Kouta told him about what his sister did.

“Oh, your sister does origami? That’s really neat! I’ve always wanted to try that.”

Different art forms always intrigued the woodcarver and he loved to look at them. He even liked trying them out for himself but he always found that woodcarving was just where he was most comfortable.

He chuckled at how enthusiastic Kouta was.

“Well I don’t have anything scheduled at the moment since I’m still busy with getting settled in but if a big project comes up I’ll tell you ok?”

[ 📚 ] “Y-Yeah! She’s the Super High School Level Origami Folder, Maiyumi Ishikawa, Mister Satoshi!” Kouta chirped, his eyes sparkling now that the subject had fully fallen on his sister and her achievements. “She works so hard every single night to fold all sorts of amazing creations, and this one time she folded an entire replica of an army tank for a contest! The judges were so shocked and thrilled from the creation that she was broadcast on television for it! I-Isn’t she cool?! She goes to this school a-and I get to attend class with her every day, s-so I get to watch her—“ As he rambled on, his eyes weren’t on the hall in front of him, causing him to nearly run into several obstacles—that he somehow managed to avoid by sheer luck of the draw. The only reason he paused in his story was when he finally did stumble over a binder that was lying on the floor that he didn’t have the luck of avoiding.

Realizing that he’d had other subjects they were talking about, Kouta shook his head gleefully and apologized immediately. “M-My sister is just…really cool!” He giggled, pausing to check where they were before continuing.

“You pinky promise that you’ll tell me?!” He asked, tilting his head curiously.

That peaked the carvers interest.

“Oh, she goes here? I would have expected her to be with you in that case. It is neat that she puts so much effort into her talent though, it sounds really amazing. Her work ethic sort of reminds me of my own.”

He could definitely remember staying up into the wee hours of the morning, completely lost in a project. Sometimes he would forgo sleep altogether (despite how much his aunt protested against it). Satoshi smiled and nodded at Kouta.

“Yes, she does sound pretty cool.”

When Kouta suddenly stumbled on the lone hallway binder the carver quickly placed his hand on the kids shoulder in order to keep him from falling over. 

“Yes, pinky promise.”

Unfortunately, when he pulled his hand away from Kouta’s shoulder, he noticed that that was his bleeding hand. He felt truly dismayed when he saw that some of the blood from his finger had gotten on the historians jacket.

“Oh, I’m so sorry! You’ll have to get that washed for sure...”
