Gman x Reader
[Things to note: I'm just now getting back into the Half-life series after not playing it for years, so there's mostly likely lore stuff or whatever that's wrong. Also, this is kinda long and not proof read, sorry about that, I guess]
It was a nice day. During everything that was constantly happening good weather was always a blessing that everyone was thankful for. Something else that you were thankful for was the fact that you were in one of the smaller cities. Yes, you were still under the every-watching eye of the Combine, but it wasn’t as pressing as it was in the larger ones. You had actually moved, or rather were moved, to this place, so little that it didn’t even have a name, about fifteen years ago. You had spent much of your childhood and some of your teenage years in City 17, and when it was deemed that you were, “old enough,” to take care of yourself in your later teen years, you were chosen for a project to inhabit a smaller, more rural habitations the Combine had started to move people to.
While your parents were hesitant to let you go, they were somewhat happy to see you got to one of these more peaceful areas. Apparently, you had lived somewhere similar when you were a small child. Though, you had trouble remembering it as it was so long ago. Your parents had found you wandering in some ruins, and took you in. It was odd to see a child around all things considered, but as they were wanting a child for sometime and the Combine officials where they were didn’t seem to mind them having one, they weren’t going to complain.
Currently resisting the masculine urge to make some platonic x readers of Half-Life The Gman.

Everything was still the same as it always seemed to be. Yet the room felt like something had shifted. Like when you become aware someone else was in a room you couldn't see, an inherent instinct somehow tipped you off always. But this wasn't quite like that. It was heavy, like something was floating above everything else disrupting and setting off tension. Slight but noticeable enough to make her look over her shoulder confused.
Nothing was there. A room as it always was, boring if anything. Turning away to glance back out the window wondering what the commotion was outside the slight pull at the hair at the back of her neck happened like something had gently brushed it aside.
Snapping around startled she inhaled sharply to look her shoulders jolting. But again nothing was there. The past while she had started wondering if she was going crazy, lately things always felt off like she had forgotten something or a pair of eyes were watching her at random moments. But she knew that was just paranoia and maybe she was just getting antsy of late. But why she wasn't sure as she had no particularly new reason to be and dismissed it easily.
This time it was definitely something though. Fully turning around she stepped back scanning the room certain it was something this time. As she did she saw what she could only explain was the flash of a pair of eyes. Her eyes shot open as her mouth fell open to shriek in fear. The scream left her lips but she stopped immediately as it got caught not actually making a sound as it came out. Real terror set in as she realized she couldn't scream. To answer her terrified confusion a voice suddenly slipped by her ear as if someone had leaned in and walked past her.
"Interesting. Isn't it?"
Before she could respond a man circled around walking in front of her which made her snap back around then jump back in alarm. He spoke as he walked forward not facing her.
"Once you learn no one can hear you, you don't scream. Is validation really so important?"
The way he spoke was extremely unsettling as his voice almost seemed to float drifting ear to ear and trailed off like it was slow to catch up on its breath. Or rather was savoring every syllable and sucking in air like they were dragging out the experience as long as possible. Her hair stood on edge as the voice pulled around her like a hand sliding along her skin its nails lightly drawing in and trailing the surface.
His voice enraptured her so quickly she forgot to scream instead taking in the strange man's figure. He seemed like just a business man in a suit, a fairly regular and unassuming suit that accentuated his tall thinner form. His appearance was clean and professional with an aged face that to her seemed almost handsome. But the second she glanced to his eyes that pretense immediately disappeared. The room dropped into cold as his face twisted into a smile. One that seemed trusting but carrying strange intent all at once like he knew something she didn't, which he clearly did.
"I know this may be confusing to you so I feel introductions are in order."
Something in the back of her throat told her she was free to speak again immediately the word who almost fell out. But he answered quickly.
"You see you are special." This stopped her as it didn't make any sense.
"In the way that you are completely unremarkable." That struck and she wanted to be offended but it was actually too sudden and only made things more confusing.
"You aren't a Freeman type. A regular sweet naive young woman. Lovely many would say." The name Freeman immediately stuck out to her enormously and she couldn't retort because it was absolutely true. Nobody on earth was like the man of legend. So then why was this man who she could tell was something....else, even talking to her? He read her mind and started to pace like he was about to explain something of great importance.
"I have been tasked to finding candidates that are able to help me achieve the goals my employers desire."
She didn't like the way he said employers so pointedly like there was something else implied but didn't focus on it wanting to hear more. He walked with purposeful yet lazed steps as he continued.
"Unassuming beauty is something I've found to be very effective in going unnoticed by society as a whole."
To be called a beauty by this man was strange and made the color in her cheeks stir as hearing someone utter beauty directed towards herself in such a strangely intimate sense mixed with the dragging curls of his voice made her heart pick up pace. Despite his seemingly normal appearance the power and authority behind it was undeniably enthralling and attractive in a terrifying but exciting way she was to scared to admit to herself.
"Having beauty and the ability to get whatever you want is surely a skill in and of itself. Isn't it?"
He stopped directly behind her frame, she could feel his body looming over hers. He was considerably taller and wherever he went the rooms atmosphere shifted with him. Frozen not looking back she felt too frightened to move like a mouse in front of a poised snake.
"Such a skill could prove quite useful to my employers endeavors. And quite...amusing."
The way amusing drifted towards her from behind finally made her turn to look at him not liking the uncomfortable implication in it. His face was leaned over her shoulder unexpectedly close making her gasp startled again while cringing away from him. He seemed to enjoy the reaction from the flash in his eyes like he never got to relish in them before.
"Would that be something you could find appealing?"
She had no answer to that and looked away from him finally as she figured that he whatever he was asking of her would have heavy consequences.
"I don't understand..."
Was all she managed. He straightened up and started to come around to face her again. As he did his hand came up and took a gentle hold at the ends of a lock of hair and simply let it fall from his fingers testing her. Too shocked to breathe she only stared able to take his hand in closely for just a moment. He inhaled as he lifted the locks like he was drawing out more air for another tantalizing word.
"I want you."
He sucked in quickly like he was swallowing saliva after a morsel. "And your skills. This deal can prove quite beneficial to you."
Her face finally did turn red fully and on instinct her hand came up to swat his away. When he vanished in an instant she shrieked again. His voice behind her purred into her ear and slipped to the other slowly.
"Please miss. Save it for your work."
Spinning around to face him starting to get tired of this she saw he again wasn't there and panicked. His voice began to circle around like he was purposefully trying to tease her into getting even more flustered.
"So many benefits. A change to the life you have now. All you need do is agree to my terms. And it all..."
His face came directly in front of her so he was speaking mere inches away. "Could be yours."
His expression was soft, turning up his brows in a coy manner almost like he was showing he knew what she really wanted. Chest pounding and sweating she forced herself to look him in the eye and became enraptured once more.
"Why me?"
The chuckle that came from him made her stomach twist and legs almost turn to jelly. He looked at her like he was about to devour her or was at least very keen on trying. Another long drawn breath pulled into him as he stared at her his eyes dropping to her lips before simply saying,
"Because I picked the best candidate. You. I want the best."
Another slow drag of air through his teeth.
"I want you."
With that his hand suddenly took her and brought it up. It was so sudden she didn't even have time to react to how unsettlingly cold his skin was. His fingers were strong and pointed holding her wrist in an exact way. He held it up to the level of her shoulder and cracked a devious grin that promised everything he had whispered to her.
"Join me and I'll make sure you attain all you desire."
Despite her hesitation she didn't pull away unable to hide her draw to the man and was not exactly upset to be touched. Not able to refuse she looked to him feeling like she was being pulled into a new life she didn't know she wanted. Her turn now to breathe heavily she sighed out her answer as he almost drew closer to her his grip on her wrist slightly tightening encouraging her to continue.
"Yes..."
With that his grip on her tightened for just a moment like he was confirming what she had just said. Jerking her arm towards himself she stumbled slightly and fell into his chest as he looked down at her with excited ravenous eyes. She gasped feeling the contact is frame on hers and braced for it feeling like she was about to melt. Just before she could fully come against him he vanished leaving her to catch herself loudly gasping in shock.
A low chuckle drifted from where he had been and slowly faded from the room leaving one last breath in her ear.
"I'll be in touch for your first assignment."
