man starting minecraft and glancing into the fandom properly for the first time in my 30s feels weirdly like. idk. stumbling through a hedge into a giant theme park after ambling through quiet streets mostly populated by museums

i can't tell if you mean this like

a.) the broader fandom community activity in general has been feeling dead-as-hell lately, and minecraft is like the last bastion(pun) of something People Simply Can't Stop Engaging With Publicly instead of most activity being relegated to walled-garden discord servers, or

b.) you personally haven't been engaging with fandom that much and suddenly you feel like you've been catapulted into a big one

Have you ever GM'd for a player that had a character that'd do nothing but "look at you with his emotionless, doll-like eyes and say nothing"? And if you haven't how'd you deal with one?

Well that seems kind of specific, I don't think I've ever had a player that was exactly like that, but I did have similar players along the line of "silent type" characters. Sometimes it actually works out well. The unavailability to communicate can add a lot to tense scenes. But if they just do it the same way every time without trying to make it fit, then I have to step in and find a way to work around it. That or the other players take the lead before I can say anything, haha.

Ah, that's... a very loaded question. Well, for starters, one of my players summoned a cloud of daggers around them and the final enemy left, knowing it may kill them. A crazy yet noble sacrifice for the rest of the party, which was low on spells and health.

On the other side of "crazy", I used to have a player at the table who would flirt with every NPC I introduced. And... I'm pretty sure they were just doing so to see how good my own flirting skills were. Not to say I'm aromantic, but not my type, haha.
