i don't mean to be oblivious but what does "you turn gold" mean? I just can't get the metaphor.

I assume this refers to the way the sunlight hits Riley at that time of day and makes her appear to be glowing with sunlight.

i know i sound like an idiot, but what does it mean to "turn gold" and why 5:30?

It refers to season 2, episode 14, Girl Meets Creativity.

Presumably this refers to the way the setting sun at that particular time of year illuminates Riley at 5:30.

I haven't seen the newest episode yet, and I'm a huge Riley/Maya shipper so my opinion is going to be very biased, but I don't see Lucas and Maya working out romantically at all. Honestly, I see them as a brother/sister pair. The way they tease and make fun of each other seems more like and older brother/younger sister thing, to me at least. Especially when Lucas took it too far for Maya with the short comment. She seemed like a little sister who felt betrayed and upset by her big brother.

They really lampshade Lucaya in the latest one, even more than they did in 2x12. I can see why people ship them romantically, but they’re more of a BroTP for me. The actors have decent chemistry/energy and the characters have a fair amount of common ground but also some varied interests. I don’t dislike the ship, except for that it takes the “aya” out of “Rilaya.” But I do see them more as bros.

My favorite thing about the short comment is that Maya didn’t really care at all that Lucas said it. They have a teasing, quasi-antagonistic relationship and that’s just par for the course. She just cared that Riley didn’t defend her. I didn’t really get the sense that she felt betrayed by Lucas at all, but she was very emotionally invested in Riley’s reactions.

I really need to do a body language breakdown meta for 2x05 because the usual Rilaya dynamics vanish like they never have before or since and Maya becomes intensely guarded. It’s kind of fascinating.

I don't know for certain that a show that's set to last for quite a few years would bring an "endgame" couple together, like solidly together, so early in the show's overall arc. I think if Lucaya happens, it's going to be an important step to what's next for Maya. sure, Topanga and Cory were together early and stayed that way. but I don't think that's who Maya is. I think there's a bigger plan here.

I mean, they certainly could put Lucaya together and have them be endgame. And I’m sure I look at the show through a biased lens, but I just think it’s a little early to be counting chickens.

Well, judging from last nights episode, it seems like Lucaya is going to happen and it'll probably be endgame. That's disappointing.

Sorry to the Lucaya shippers, but I don’t happen to see it quite like that yet. I can see the potential, but I don’t feel threatened by it yet. And even if it happens (they’re obviously going to explore it at the very least,) I won’t call anything endgame until the game actually ends.

Nice episode. Good for both Rilaya and Lucaya. (I don't multiship, but I've always said that if I had to pick a straight ship on this show: it's Lucaya.)

"Matthews!" "Turner!" They were fun. He brings good energy.

I was also glad to see Zay again. And he takes ballet, so bonus points for a step toward dispelling toxic masculinity (something I'm very passionate about.)

You know, seeing Pippin performed at my high school definitely altered the course of my life. Even though my life has gone down other paths since then, I'd probably be a completely different person if I hadn't gone on from that to spend the next three years in the drama department.

Loved the counterpoint about cutting math, science, and reading. It's never made sense to me that I had to take math four times and only had one required humanities class. English and Drama really balanced me out. Many schools don't even have one humanities requirement anymore, from what I hear. This episode really got into something serious and I'm glad that something like this is going out to the world. I definitely liked this one.
