#CalledOut A prayer for the 2017 UMC Judicial Council Hearing Written By: Adlai Troi
O holy and infinite God, Help us clear to murky waters that surround your flock. Guide our hearts and minds to peace, grace, and acceptance. We find ourselves crying out, questioning our place within this world. We’re told that we’re incompatible and beautifully made within the same sentence.
Mother God, wrap your arms around our beloved bodies as we continue this journey of discernment. Today we are faced with not only decisions and pronouncements on Bishop Oliveto and the 111 queer clergy but for those who will come after. For the cases that will continue to come until our murky waters can be made clear. For those who need the extra love and support to cross over the threshold into the church. For those who are in discernment struggling with their sexuality and the church’s stance. For those who think that they are broken, believe that they are unloved, or have been told that they are living a life of sin. For those who may have run away from you and are in search for a higher power to guide their lives.
Father God, clear the murky waters for those who need to make the decision. Ease their souls and minds as they discern the actions that need to be made. Provide them with comfort and knowledge as they reflect over not only the past couple of days, but the past couple of weeks, of months, of years, and of decades. Open their eyes Holy Spirit and guide them to the green pastures and clear waters.
Eternal God, we cry out to you. We cry out for those who have been shuttered into closets, turned away from their calling, or left their earthly bodies too early. Help us continue to find hope when the darkness starts battling the light. Remind us, each and everyone of us, that we are a beloved, child of God. Amen.
