Terry Pratchett swats down illegitimacy of Fantasy
Been reading Mort with my 11-year-old
Kids apparently are never too old for bedtime stories. When offered a choice to be read a story about Death, Wiz(z)ards, or the Witches... my 11-year-old daughter selected Death. (We're fresh out of cake, har har)
So Mort it was!
She now has a tiny pink fake chick named Mort, who sits on the book as I read.
She now likes to shout "BOY" at me, in which I am now yelling back "MORT". It's pretty much replaced traditional greetings.
I'm curious how weird things are going to get around here when she gets introduced to Nanny Ogg o.O. she's already a Von Lipwig fan.
Happy Glorious 25th of May, sorry not sorry for the Discworld spam 😋💜🥚
The thought “Jesus, I miss Sam Vimes” just popped into my head out of nowhere
It was funny at first but then I realized it was also absolutely true. Yes, he’s fictional. But thinking about it, with the sheer amount of time I spent with him in college especially, Feet of Clay and Jingo and of course Night Watch, he was, in many ways, a constant companion.
I haven’t read any...any Pratchett, really, since he crossed the black desert. I haven’t been reading books in general in a long while, new tech problems I know, but it never struck me until now how much of a constant his work was in my life until now. I always had a paperback of The Light Fantastic in my bag, on King’s suggestion people should carry a paperback for the small moments of life, in my case sitting in the hall before psych classes, waiting for Joe Backlund to show up so I could bug the man for as long as possible.
I wonder what the Commander would think of me.
It’s not a question I could have asked myself and gotten the right answer from before.
I need to unpack my books...
Current Holiday watch list:
So since my family isn’t doing a big Christmas get together this year for obvious reasons, thought I’d post of a list of the movies I’m going to watch to celebrate the Solstice.
Anna and the Apocalypse (Christmas Musical AND a Zombie Movie)
The Nightmare before Christmas (Classic)
The Hogfather (Pratchett knew how to tell a story about the true meaning of Christmas)
Frozen? (Close enough to Christmas for me)
Other than that, I’ll probably browse my collection and Netflix to see where I want to go. Recommendations welcome!
Idk what gnu Pratchett is regarding that author man. All I can think of is like nu goth and that doesn't really seem to fit. Unless gnu terry Pratchett is an aesthetic? Possibly
Began reading Mort to my 11 year old daughter before bed. She named a tiny fluffy pink chick Mort. It reads with us now.
A few days ago the random outburst of one of us yelling "BOY" followed by the other responding back with "Mort..." started. My boyfriend who has not read the book yet is slightly confused. Told him he better just read the book, probably. (He started on The Color of Magic)
Week 2
We hit page 65 last night. Mort the Pink and Fluffy now has a Binky apparently. (I'm rediculously proud)
