Okay, originally it was a secret because he was doing something else (and it was going to be a pretty big reveal at a point in the story) but his job is completely different now so there isn't really a reason/need for it to be a secret at this point. If you don't want to know (for whatever reason) I'll put it under the cut, but...

Rose is a music teacher.

Specifically, Rose is Tommy's music teacher for this upcoming school year.

More specifically, after settling down with his late husband and retiring from being a traveling musician, he started working as an elementary school music teacher. However, he's close friends with the district's superintendent and agrees to work as Tommy's high school's music teacher after the previous one mysteriously died.

Additionally, Rose is Tommy's next door neighbor.
