(I should say up front that this post is written from the perspective that I don't consider the idea of them having met before Eden to be canon. I don't think that was the intention when there was only Season 1, and personally I don't like the idea of them meeting before the Fall.)
Why had it never occurred to me that, in the Mesopotamia flashback, Crowley calls Aziraphale by name, even though Aziraphale never introduced himself to him on the wall of Eden?
I'd like to imagine that, while Aziraphale was sheltering Crowley from the rain, they had a conversation something like this:
"By the way..." Crawley hesitated. "What's your name?"
"Aziraphale," the angel replied a little bit absently after a brief pause.
The demon gave a little grin.
"Did I say something amusing?" the angel asked, sounding puzzled, though there was no irritation in his voice.
"I was expecting something like Michael or Gabriel," Crawley admitted. "It suits you. Better than mine, anyway."
They stood in silence, watching the rain drink into the flower petals. Aziraphale's curls had started to frizz in the damp air, and Crawley did his best to hide the smile that sight brought to his face.
The night promised to be dark and stormy.
- What are you in the mood for now?
- Alcohol. Quite extraordinary amounts of alcohol (c)
