#Welsh Word of the Day: Gobaith/ #Hope
I'm sure writing a lot of Samurai Jack fanfics...
...that don't have Jack in them.
Jill obviously meets him, but I got a bit distracted by some side characters which is OK with me because I have a pretty clear idea of what I'm doing. It's just that Ohtori and Fumiko won't meet him for another 30 years or so. (I do have a set timeline but I'm too lazy to quibble about this particular detail.) I'm also writing about Leiko a bit and I'm not sure she actually spends time trying to kill him in this particular project. Hell, she's probably not even going to interact with Aku that much. Yes, she's sad, too.
I don't particularly feel like moving these characters to their own world because there's not really much of a world to begin with. It's not like Gobaith where I had so much mythology at my disposal that I figured I was better off giving it room to breathe. It's not going to stop me from writing this stuff for a bit longer before I go back to some other projects, but it does kind of make me wonder what I should do with this material. Maybe I'll just put it on my own web space or something.
At least Jack's still Jack and not a demon exorcist priest who's also a demon, I guess.
Abercuawg - Fflur Dafydd
Can hyfryd arall yw hon gan Fflur Dafydd o'i halbwm 'Byd Bach'. Meddai Fflur, "Daw'r syniad o Abercuawg, y man 'ble mae'r gog yn canu' ('where the cuckoos' sing), o ddarlith 1976 gan y bardd R.S Thomas. Mae e'n dychmygu 'utopia' diwylliannol ar gyfer Cymru - lle na fydd byth yn bodoli, ond lle sydd yn "evermore about to be", fel petai. Mae'r siaradwr yn y gan yn deffro o freuddwyd i glywed adar Rhiannon (delwedd arall a ddefnyddir yn aml gan Thomas) yn canu yn ei phen, yn ei hannog i gredu yn Abercuawg, ac i ddechrau ei thaith amhosibl, yn droednoeth, tuag at y golau rhyfedd ar y gorwel."
Another excellent song by Fflur Dafydd from her album 'Byd Bach' (Small World). Fflur states, "the concept of Abercuawg, the place 'where the cuckoos' sing, comes from the 1976 lecture by R.S Thomas. He imagines a cultural utopia for Wales, a place that will never exist, but a place that is 'evermore about to be,'. The speaker in the song awakes from a dream to hear Rhiannon's birds (another image used frequently by Thomas) singing in her head, urging her to believe in Abercuawg, and to start her impossible journey, barefoot, towards the mysterious light on the horizon."
Angel - Elin Fflur
Can hyfryd yw hon o ail albwm y gantores Elin Fflur, Cysgodion. Mae'r siaradwr yn y gan yn cael cysur a nerth wrth ddychmygu fod 'na angel yn gwylio drosti. Meddai Elin Fflur, wrth drafod y gan - "Dwi'n meddwl bod pawb yn licio meddwl bo gynnyn nhw warchodwr neu 'guardian angels' (...) jysd y ffaith bod pobl yn licio meddwl bod na rhywun yna i roi nhw ar y llwybr cywir mewn bywyd, mae o ryw fath o gysur iddyn nhw mewn ffordd..."
This is a wonderful song by singer Elin Fflur from her second solo album 'Cysgodion' (Shadows). The speaker in the song gets solace and strength from imagining a guardian angel watching over her. When discussing the song, Elin said "I think everyone likes to imagine that they've got someone who watches over them or a guardian angel (...) just the fact that people like to think that there's someone there to put them on the right path in life, it's like a comfort for them in a way..."
Ar Hyd y Nos - Elin Fflur A'r Moniars
Dyma fersiwn unigryw o'r gan enwog 'Ar Hyd y Nos' a gaiff ei pherfformio gan Y Moniars oddi ar yr albwm 'Harbwr Diogel'. Mae'r Moniars wedi ceisio rhoi dillad newydd i hen alawon gwerin o'r dechrau. Dyma geisio poblogeiddio'r gan enwog led led y byd yn Saesneg ac dyma geisio rhoi rhythm o fath reggae iddi hi, a dyma'r canlyniad!
This is a unique version of the famous song 'All Through the Night' performed by 'Y Moniars' from the album 'Harbwr Diogel'. This is a reggae version of one of the most famous Welsh folk songs. The Moniars always love to dress traditional tunes in new clothes!
I'r Golau - Meinir Gwilym Can fywiog o albwm gyntaf Meinir Gwilym (Smocs, Coffi a Fodca Rhad) - "A dwim yn gwybod lle yr aeth y teimlad du / A sgyn'i ddim ots lle yr aeth o chwaith / A dim ond golau sydd rwan tu mewn i mi" A lively song from Meinir Gwilym's debut album, Smocs Coffi a Fodca Rhad (Ciggarettes, Coffee and Cheap Fodka) - "A dwim yn gwybod lle yr aeth y teimlad du / A sgyn'i ddim ots lle yr aeth o chwaith / A dim ond golau sydd rwan tu mewn i mi" (And I don't know where the dark feeling went / And I don't care where it fled either / And only light is within me now..."
Papillion - Elin Fflur a'r Moniars
Can a ysbrydolwyd gan y ffilm o'r un enw sy'n cynnwys portread gan Steve McQueen o ddyn sy'n gwrthod cael ei gaethiwo gan yr awdurdodau ac hyd yn oed yn ei henaint mae'n mynnu torri'n rhydd. Mae'na loyn byw y tu mewn i bob un ohonom yn ysu am hedfan yn rhydd. Papillon yw'r gair ffrenging am loyn byw. A song inspired by the famous film of the same name featuring Steve McQueen. There is a beautiful butterfly within each of us always crying out to be truly free. Papillon is the french term for a butterfly.
