Name Meaning: Gobi Reptile
Described By: Vickaryous et al.
Classification: Dinosauria, Ornithischia, Genasauria, Thyreophora, Eurypoda, Ankylosauria, Ankylosauridae
Gobisaurus is an Ankylosaurid known from the Ulansuhai Formation of Inner Mongolia, China, living about 92 million years ago, in the Turonian age of the Late Cretaceous. It was a large Ankylosaurid, about six meters long, and was very similar to Shamosaurus, to the point of being thought to be another species of the genus Shamosaurus. It had very large nostrils and large eyes as well, indicating that those senses were more important for the animal than perhaps for other Ankylosaurs. It is one of the most early derived Ankylosaurids, and it had a skull longer than it was wide.
