Waiting on God

God's timing: 1. God has schedule in every area 2. God's timing is his sovereignty You don't get to know the time, timing is the Father's business. 3. God's timing is always on time 4. If it's God's time, God can do anything in instant. 2 reason God asks us to wait: 1. To test the purity of our faith 2. Working on our character What can we do while we wait God's timing? 1. Maintaining our Faith We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody. Isn’t that what we’ve always read in Scripture, God saying to Abraham, “I set you up as father of many peoples”? Abraham was first named “father” and then became a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could do: raise the dead to life, with a word make something out of nothing. When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. And so he was made father of a multitude of peoples. God himself said to him, “You’re going to have a big family, Abraham!” - Rome 4:18 The Message 2. Be Patient Never compare to others answered prayers/ success story. And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. - Hebrew 6:15 ESV And so, having patiently waited, he realized the promise [in the miraculous birth of Isaac, as a pledge of what was to come from God] - Hebrew 6:15 AMP 3. Hold on to God's promises My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments, Which I love, And I will meditate on Your statutes - Psalms 119: 48 NIV 4. Keep perseverance Stay diligent and consistent in reading God's word, prayers, working as if you work for the Lord. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. - Hebrew 10:36

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9

Point to remember: 1. The first stress releaser/ medicine for free from stress is to believe in God. But I trust in you, LORD; I say, “You are my God.” 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. - Psalms 31:14-15 2. Change the worry/ anxiety/ fear energies to prayers.

3. Never give up on God's promises for your life. [The Lord answered] “Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. “Indeed, I have inscribed [a picture of] you on the [a]palms of My hands; Your city walls [Zion] are continually before Me.

His mercies are new every morning

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

How wonderful is it and how blessed are we that God’s Mercy never ever ceases?

I often use words such as unfailing; unending; unstoppable when speaking of God and His Promises.

But I don’t say them just to say them, they’re FACTS!

The Bible tells us of all God has promised to us from the beginning of time. Two of my favorites are:

His Love, forgiveness, and mercy will never end

He will never leave us but will always be with us

What’s even more comforting and reassuring (and God knows He has to reassure us often since our emotions go up and down and we sometimes feel like what we’ve done can never be forgiven—even by Him) is that His promises are unfailing; unending; unstoppable!

Here are some of the countless verses in which the Bible reminds us of God’s Promises:

Psalm 136

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14)

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” (Job 42:2)

“No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

“Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.” (Joshua 21:45)

“I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. (2 Samuel 7:14-15)

“Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. (Psalm 24:8)

“For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.” (Psalm 33:4)

“He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:10-12)

“If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.” (Psalm 130:3-4)

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever." (Isaiah 40:8)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

“I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.” (Isaiah 43:25)

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (Matthew 24:35)

“Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)

“For the word of God will never fail.” (Luke 1:37)

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.” (2 Timothy 2:13)

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

Not to mention the promises God made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! 

And He promised David would always have one of his descendants be 

We can rest assured our God is good, all the time; and all the time our God is good. And He is always with us, forgiving us when we turn away from our sins and return to Him.

His Love is forever and ever and ever!

2/25/19: Finding Hope in Our Droughts

Hey everyone! Hope you all have had a good start to the week so far (or at least as good as a Monday can get)! Pray to begin and ask the Holy Spirit to open up your heart to hear what not I have to say, but rather what He has to say to you. "After a long time, in the third year, the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 'Go present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the land.'" - 1 Kings 18:1

A little context on what is happening: Israel had been suffering from a drought (1 Kings 17:1). This drought wasn't a simple dry spell: it was a "severe" drought (18:2) that had been lasting for three years or so. However, in the midst of this dryness, God promises Elijah that rain will come so long as he obeys Him in approaching King Ahab.

So Elijah obeys God and goes to meet Ahab, and the rest of the passage is mostly about the famous showdown between Elijah and the Baal prophets on Mount Carmel (if you don't know the story, it's found in verses 16-42). 

After the whole ordeal (especially with fire coming down from heaven and causing the sacrifice and whole altar to be literally engulfed in flames), Elijah was definitely ready and even was prepared for God's promise of rain to come.

'Go and look toward the sea,' [Elijah] told his servant. And he went up and looked. 'There is nothing there,' he said." - 1 Kings 18:43a

"There is nothing there". No cloud. No rain. No promise. "Nothing". I don't know about you, but whenever I hear that word, there's just this empty and hopeless ring to it. You can almost feel Elijah's heart sink and his trust in God waver as he hears these words. Nothing. Elijah held up his end of the deal: he obeyed God and did exactly as he was told to do. He has done everything for God. But what did he get in response? Nothing.Did God not fulfill His promise? Did He make an empty promise? Did His words all along actually mean nothing? 

But Elijah didn't lose faith in God.

"Seven times Elijah said, 'Go back.' The seventh time the servant reported, 'A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea.'  ... Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling..." - 1 Kings 18:43b-45

This whole next scene just blows my mind. Elijah had so much confidence in God that he kept seeking His promises and sent his servant back seven times. Seven times. Not once, not twice, not three times, not even four, but SEVEN. Something that Elijah was able to see, and something that we (me especially) may fail to realize, is that God's promises will come to pass, even if it's not according to our timing.

There will be times when we are stuck in our own "droughts", whether its with our jobs, with school, with our families, or with an illness, and within these droughts there may be two, three, four, or maybe seven rounds/seasons of it. Sadly, these "droughts" and hardships we face in our lives are inevitable. But a drought doesn't mean the death of God's promise to you. It simply means it's a "delay", at least according to our schedules. We can find hope in the midst of our droughts that God will keep His promises and send rain, even if we can't quite see the cloud yet.

And when we seek for even the slightest evidence and signs of God's promises, don't give up after the first glance at the sky. Just as Elijah persistently sought out for a sign and kept telling his servant to "go back", we too can also "go back" and with confidence keep watching the sky for a cloud. And just as Elijah saw that cloud "as small as a man's hand" turn into "heavy rain", we too will see God fulfill His promises and send His rainfalls.

God's promises are never "empty", not even "half full", and especially never "nothing". Our God is not a God of empty promises. What God promises to do, He will do. The real question is: will you have the patience to see it come to pass? "And with great anticipation, we await the promise to come. Everything that You have spoken will come to pass - let it be done." - There Is a Cloud, Elevation Worship
