Was it you who was part of the GODMODE AU way back when here on tumblr? and if s, can you tell us about it/share anything? It's an interesting concept i've been thinking of trying to bring back among some friends but im not sure anything about the origins as i JUST missed it when i had found it years ago-
I was part of Godmode, yup. That's where my character Crimson Kingpin came from. Though she's now very much her own character separate from Godmode, she started out as a literal self-insert!
Godmode didn't have rules, really. In essence, it was a roleplaying group without the 'group' and without any true 'admins' or 'moderators'. Just friends having fun and artists jumping in when they got inspired by the prompt "Draw yourself as an over-powered god."
The only guidelines for participation were:
1) Make a godmode. A godmode is a self-insert who has god-like power. They should have power over something. (For example, Crimson Kingpin was the goddess of Greed and Organized Crime, patron deity of gangsters everywhere.) The concept can be as literal, silly or abstract as you want. It generally informs their powers, but doesn't have to.
2) Have fun and play nice. Godmode was basically playing pretend on the playground with other kids in your class - everyone is overpowered and everyone is cool.
People used Godmode as a springboard to collaboratively tell stories, make up lore, worldbuild, and generally flesh out the universe as they saw fit. There were gods that fulfilled all sorts of roles in the universe, and as more people participated the more fleshed out everything became! People came up with Realms/Domains their gods called homes, which could look and be however they wanted. People came up with followers (which were essentially further OCs that worked or worshiped your main Godmode, and were just more opportunities for roleplay). People came up with 'true' forms, tragic backstories, epic storylines - the sky is the limit. You can do whatever you want - there weren't any rules.
Dunno if that helps but if you and your friends bring it back, I wish you luck! Godmode was really special and fun, even if it kinda fell apart as we tried to control something that was ultimately uncontrollable. I drew so much for it...
