So I started playing Nightshade

And just finished the Good ending of Goemon Ishikawa!

I've been wanting to play this otome game for a while now and finally got my hands on it and started playing asap! Even though i have so much time in quarantine but i'm super lazy who've made a habit of sleeping more than 12 hours a day so it took more time to finish a single route than I thought. And I chose my first route to be Goemon's (well it depends on your choices on the common route, but there's something called walkthrough for a reason ;))

The reason for choosing this route first even though it appears to be the last one in the least because of a walkthrough i found where she recommended a certain order for spoiler reasons and after completing this route i felt like some questions still remained unanswered so i guess she was right.

Now about Goemon's route, i think i loved it very much that i kinda hesitant to play the other routes now because i think i won't love them like i did this one. I won't say it's the best otome game route (and i didn't even have to all routes let alone many other otome games), but i think it was quite good.

When i opened the game, none of the character really interested me that much at first glance (maybe that's why i looked up the walkthrough?). But when i first met & heard Goemon's voice in the game, i think i was immediately charmed. And then i think he charmed me throughout the whole route, just like the heroine. The power of voice is really great, and i think Midorikawa Hikaru's voice is a perfect match for Goemon. His voice, and the voice acting seemed PERFECT to me. Like i really loved his voice so much and i want to praise it more for the next few days, i'm really whipped for this voice (my inner seiyuu fan is showing)

There were some unexpected events and twists but i loved it overall. Goemon was a really interesting character with an interesting personality and intelligence. His witty scheme at the fushimi castle actually made me laugh so much. If there's anything i didn't like, i don't know, probably the heroine. I didn't like the character design from the beginning to be honest, maybe i wanted a bit mature character, i don't know what do i even want.

Anyway, there were some good CGs from the route (although the kissing CGs did not live up to my expectation unfortunately), i love these CGs and the overall moment/scene so much when they took shelter in an old temple. There was something so sweet and gentle about that moment, i loved it more than the last few CGs 🥰

I played the DLC too and it was really cute too, two of them working together and the cute moments with hair tying in the end with a full CG 😍

Hmm i don't think i have much more to say until i play the other routes, i'm looking forward to those said spoilers, the questions that remained answered and also have to unlock the memoirs 🤔

I just hope i won't be lazy again ending up putting it on hold..

This is an example of “archaic spelling” in use. In modern language "Nanban reuri” 南蛮れうり would be written as “Nanban ryouri” 南蛮料理, literally meaning “Barbarian/Foreign cooking”. 

In archaic spelling, “you” よう sounds are written as “eu” えう. An example from Matsuo Bashou’s haiku:

吉野にて桜見せうぞ檜木笠   Yoshino nite / sakura mishou zo / hinoki-gasa

In the modern reading provided, the words are rendered as “mishou”, but in the actual poem transcript it’s written as “miseu”. 

I’m not sure if the writers wrote it this way on purpose or not, because I almost never see anything else in the game done this way (for example, in archaic spelling Ieyasu is Iyeyasu instead). It seems that because this is the spelling used to refer to “Japanese-style adaptation of foreign cooking” down through the ages, and perhaps even recorded as such in national heritage accounts, sometimes even modern people still say “Nanban reuri” instead of the modernized “Nanban ryouri”. 

According to what I read, this spelling is still in use in the Taisho era. In "Chou'u”, a story written in 1948, “hyoutan” 瓢箪 (bottle gourds, like what you see in Hideyoshi’s castle items) is given the reading “heutan” へうたん in hiragana.
