Goheimochi from Amaama to Inazuma!
Of course, now that I have a toddler of my own, which other anime am I going to turn to other than Amaama to Inazuma? (Also known as Sweetness and Lightning).
The Little Bottomless Pit loved this, until she realized that it was rice and not ice-cream. Also, Tsumugi’s hair is ridiculously long for a 3-year old. This is also great to make in a pandemic, where the main ingredients are staples, though I didn’t have sesame seeds :(. I also had to wait until I had enough unsolicited free disposable chopsticks, as we usually don’t take them for environmental purposes. Chime in if you have any idea on what else can be used as an eco-friendly replacement!
I also used a convection fan oven to cook it instead of an open gas flame, for safety reasons. Open flames and toddlers don’t really mix.
Ingredients (for 3 big ones)
- 1-1.5 cup cooked rice - a handful of walnuts, toasted - 1 tbsp sesame seeds (according to the manga) - 1 tbsp miso - 1 tbsp mirin - 1 tbsp soy sauce - 2 tbsp sugar - 3 disposable chopsticks
Method:
1. Grind the walnuts and sesame (if you have it). It should become a little paste-like.
I got the Little Bottomless Pit to help me, but had to stop her as she soon started eating the walnuts.
2. Mix the ground nuts & seeds with the miso, mirin, sugar and soy sauce.
3. Mash the rice a little.
4. Form the rice into flat patties, and stick the chopstick in. Wrap aluminum foil around the resulting “handle”, or make sure the chopsticks are wet so they don’t burn.
5. Grill the rice, or bake it like I did with a fan oven.
6. Spread the miso on it with the back of a spoon. For me, because I was using an oven, I put the miso on one side first.
7. (extra step if you are using an oven) Bake one side till it’s slightly charred. Flip over, and repeat with the other side!
8. Or just roast over an open flame if you have no young kids who might come in and stick their fingers in it.
9. Watch out - it’s hot! Take a bite and enjoy!
