True story: Recently we went to a Get the Led Out concert. It was in a small town near where I live so that the only hotel happened to be across the street from the beautiful old theatre where their tour band was parked. I said to my friend that I bet the members of the band were in our hotel. After having a few drinks in our room, we headed to the concert at 7:45pm since it started at 8pm. The elevator door opened and there stood Paul, the lead singer, standing with a giant suitcase and looking a bit startled as I said “Hey we’re going to your concert!” in the time that it took for me to blurt that out, the elevator doors started to close and actually, the inner doors DID close but my friend and I, totally buzzed, stuck our feet into the outer doors to keep them from closing. And, then, the inner doors opened and we tumbled inside laughing. I’m sure that was the last thing he wanted, to be trapped in the elevator with two crazies. My friend asked “Going down?” And I added “I think there’s a song about that” and my friend asked again, smiling, “Are you going down?”. Without missing a beat he answered, “We don’t have enough time”. The doors opened onto the lobby and I said “Looking forward to this, we saw you guys last summer” and he smiled and said “oh yeah? Where at?” Or something like that. “See you soon” we called after him as he waved and jumped into a van that was headed to the theatre down the street. Next time we saw him, he was on the stage as the band opened with “Rock and Roll” - half-way through the show, right before the did “When the Levee Breaks” he commented “This is a favorite request here in town”. My friend and I looked at each other and cracked up. Great night! 😂
[Insert bad spooky elevator pun here]
