Posted @withregram • @george_michael_flawless Up Close with George Michael, BBC Radio 2, March 2014 [George about his cover of Going To A Town, by Rufus Wainwright] 🔹️ What lines of lyrics do you absolutely love in that? I think my favorite lines from that are quite clear actually I think. ‘Do you really think you go to hell for having loved?’ Is a gorgeous, gorgeous line. I love the fact there are no gay references and you know I mean it’s the way it should be. And we all know that the best Tennessee Williams work was when he couldn’t actually say what he wanted to say. You know the ‘less is more’ think and create some of the most beautiful lyrics. I tend to always want to be understood so I tend to simplify a lot of things that could get very lyrical with what I do. I tend to go somewhere in the middle you know. There are metaphors there but I don’t want the metaphors to be lost on people. And I’m not saying that this one would but when you think really that it’s a song about Iraq and gay marriage together I think, which are obviously two things that became kind of close to my heart in their own ways. And I think it’s just such a wonderfully gentle indictment in a weird way of what’s gone on in recent years. #georgemichael #goingtoatown #cover #rufuswainwright #symphonica #orchestraltour #onstage #singer #songwriter #producer #composer #activist #performer #performance #artist #sensitivity #kindness #aman #icon #legend #thesinginggreek #loved #youhavebeenloved #tilltheendoftime #georgemichaelforever #georgemichaelthelegend #perfection #perfectionist #soul #beautifulsoul https://www.instagram.com/p/CK_3SX7BM_d/?igshid=1c2btcb9yjhxn
