Tidda nudges me and makes intense eye contact to convey it’s time to take her out again. How I wish I could stay in my warm bed! The weight of my responsibility is absolutely relentless. As I step out of the car, a gust of cold sea air blows in my face and about 10 ravens greet me in anticipation of their daily peanuts. I’m delighted to see them! I take a moment to marvel at the pink dawn. The sky doesn’t prey on us or want anything from us. It just is. It is beautiful. The ocean is busy with its salty rhythm under a veil of mist. I hear the crashing waves. It pleases me to see the shape of Cape Sebastian that I know so well. My legs start walking, and muscle memory kicks in. Body memory is spirit memory. I breathe in the grand presence of the sky and hear the ravens calling. At dawn, you can see the world changing in minutes before your very eyes.

Day 3 with Bernie - Bandon to Port Orford to Gold Beach, OR

After our pancake breakfast, we piled into Bernie's car and headed south. We decided to visit Bandon Beach again, hoping for calmer winds and a chance to get out on the beach. We lucked out and were able to get down on the beach and check out the sights:

We continued our southward journey, driving out to Cape Blanco State Park. We stopped at the Hughes Historic House:

Built in 1898 by pioneers Patrick and Jane Hughes, they ran a dairy farm for 30 years before they had the home built. According to the Historic Properties of Oregon website, they had seven children, one of whom was a longtime keeper at Cape Blanco Light Station.

Continuing south, we stopped at Port Orford - taking in a bit of the history at the visitor center, as well as their ornate front door and the beautiful coastline:

Last stop of the day was the Port Hole Cafe in Gold Beach. Had some awesome seafood and a local brew:

This is our last day with Bernie, we have had a fantastic time exploring the southern Oregon coast with him. What a gracious tour guide and host! We will definitely be coming back and spending more time with this wonderful friend. Thank you for spending so much time with us, Bernie!
