The shimmering gold in the image above wasn’t panned from a river or dug from a mine. It was created by a remarkable bacterium called Cupriavidus metallidurans, which can survive in toxic, metal-rich environments and transform poisonous gold compounds into tiny particles of pure, 99.9% metallic gold.
The Boot of Cortez is the largest surviving natural gold nugget found in the Western Hemisphere. It weighs an astonishing 383.10 troy ounces, 11.9 kg or 26.2 pounds. It is 98% pure gold. It is shaped like a conquistador’s boot. measuring 10¾ in. (27.3 cm) tall × 7¼ in. (18.4 cm) wide.
A prospector discovered “The Boot of Cortez” using a metal detector from Radio Shack while searching for gold in 1989 near Caborca, Mexico, about 70 miles south of the Arizona border and about 60 miles east of the Sea of Cortez in the Mexican state of Sonora.

Gold is forever. It is beautiful, useful, and never wears out. Small wonder that gold has been prized over all else, in all ages, as a store of value that will survive the travails of life and the ravages of time.

Naugget is a Steel type based on gold (that's why there's an 'au' in his name!). New Zealand had a massive gold rush in the 1860s which brought prospectors from all over, including many overseas hopefuls from places like China, Australia and America. This had a huge impact on New Zealand's economy and aftereffects of the rush - including the diverse makeup of New Zealand's modern population - can still be seen in New Zealand today.
