Oh hey filet mignon burrito from the best of LA, Guerrilla Tacos. This thing is loaded! Cheddar, egg, avocado, mushroom, arugula, it almost seems like a breakfast sandwich, right? Add in the juicy filet and that perfect arbol chile to make it a uniquely Guerrilla burrito. I mean, how lucky is this city to have this truck rolling around town? (at ROW DTLA)
Goldburger made! I call this the “Tiki Smash” and my buddy Kyle killed it with the idea. Thinly sliced pineapple deep fried, two 2.5oz smashed patties of chuck fully seared on a cast iron over piping hot coals, house made 1000 island I should have applied more liberally, pepper jack cheese I also should have been more liberal with, and sandwiched between King’s Hawaiian hamburger buns— I had to clear out the whole inventory at Target! The classic burger at this classic counter is a classic for a reason. Did it invent the cheeseburger? Maybe. Thousand island and American and crispy lettuce, I went for the crispness of the raw #onion with my usual grilled onions. That’s right— two onions! They now have a name for the double on the menu, The Big Ben. Usually I never want a double, but honestly I wish I had today. I forget how incredible a patty is off a 50 year old flat top grill! I finally made it to Hard Times Sundaes, one of my favorite Instagram accounts and now one of my favorite burgers. If the menu says “Signature Burger” I say get the Signature Burger. Perfectly charred double patties with just the right amount of pink in the middle, covered in heavenly melted american cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon, all wrapped tightly between Martin’s potato rolls. Now that the news on what’s happening with Easy’s Burgers is out on Eater, its about time I posted the cheeseburgers from the old popup in Chinatown last year. First up is the namesake cheeseburger, the Easy’s. It’s not very common to find muenster cheese on a burger, but it was sweet and nutty, and paired nicely on the salty and meaty patty, and the equally salty pancetta bacon. The ratio on all of the burgers at Easy’s are pretty key— this is possible the most perfect brioche I’ve ever had on a burger.
What is upscale BBQ anyway? I don’t really know, but this cheeseburger from Barrel and Ashes is great. Squishy and small brioche bun, lots of bacon, lots of cheese, lots of sauce! The burger is meaty, and the bacon is salty. It’s a delicious, if not slightly too expensive, cheeseburger. Served with tater tots? Get the tater tots. (at Barrel and Ashes)
Served on red and white checkered paper in an updated classic burger joint, the cheeseburger at Cassell's is juicy and meaty with a killer char. I like to add in some crunchy bacon as well-- look how beautiful it is all over that perfectly melted American cheese. The Parker House bun might be my favorite for a bigger style burger, though a Martin's Potato Roll will always have my heart. (at Cassell's Hamburgers)
Who hasn't gone to Universal Citywalk in the middle of a weekday for an incredible fried chicken sandwich from Chef Ludo? Otherwise only available at a Lakers or Clippers game, this is probably the most expensive chicken sandwich in all of LA. It's also one of my favorites. The spicy is spicy, and the dark meat is full of flavor. (at Ludo Bird CityWalk)
