[ ... ] A THREAD. featuring @goldglorified [ ID: ZHONGLI ].
the resonating echo of their laughter paints the tavern with a sense of deliberate intents that sometimes diluc doesn’t know how to perceive. venti is barbatos, sometimes he has to remind himself over and over again, but that doesn’t alter the perspective that he has about the archon. venti is still someone donning a garment of feigned mortality that has yet to synchronise himself with the mundane artifices. mora, so the tab keeps on growing to the point where diluc is certain that venti cannot afford it unless he’s to perform a miracle. meanwhile, his company for the day... well, the night, is a gentleman, or so he seems. zhongli is another stray soul that lately often graces the tavern with his visits, alongside venti even when they cannot feel more contradictory: venti with the medium-sized humane body, and zhongli with the immensely tall build that diluc cannot evade in terms of attraction. not that he’d admit to that, but still.
he sinks into the pit of reverie only to realise that he’s been lost enough to surpass the opening hour. he starts noticing when his staff members begin to bid him goodbye, but yes, diluc has taken it upon himself to close the bar tonight, imposing something unusual upon himself. no, tonight, the darknight hero is going to be another no-show, too. he sighs, eventually done with polishing the glasses. setting them down, he waits until it’s around twenty minutes past the closing hours... the dawn is to come, and he’s to return to the winery soon, but he prolongs the minutes, seconds, pilfering the sight of the god’s company while letting the cogs of his thoughts turning. he’s always wondered if the acquaintance is another archon, and while he has his own guesses, he believes that none is enough as supporting evidence to back off his surmised suspicions. and besides, he needs to really sever the filament of these thoughts, so he does what he must: approaching the last two patrons of the tavern, maintaining his usual gaze at venti as he crosses his arms in front of his chest. “it’s past the closing time already, may i close the tabs for you, kind sirs?” he asks with a hint of sarcasm, but he cannot be as snark when it comes to zhongli. hell, he cannot even spare the man past a glance.
and of course, venti is to spill his inability to pay, so diluc sighs. “alright, as long as you get going now.” that’s when zhongli offers to walk him down to the winery as zhongli is also going to make his way back to liyue. diluc is a tad too flushed to realise what venti’s jest is implying at the moment, but he tries preserving his calm, shrugging as he says, “sure, why not.” so, that’s how he’s ‘stuck’ in this circumstance, after the tavern is closed. the hint of dandelion wine in zhongli’s breath is the common assertive measure that anchors him to reality now that they’re heading out of mondstadt. diluc has to pretend like he hasn’t been stealing glances zhongli’s way throughout the service. now that there are only the two of them, he has more reasons to have his attention fixated on zhongli. “so, you’re a native to liyue,” he says, and was meaning for it to be an inquiry more than a statement, but he doesn’t correct himself, strolling along the pathway towards the winery. it’s going to be a prolonged trip, but diluc has nothing to complain about.
