First thing that came to mind was zombies... Idk why

I let the heel ofmy boots crack against the floor. “Come on, Pete. Lay off.” I called back tohim, wishing he’dstop playing games. This was the fourth false alarm this week alone. It’sgetting a little out of hand. “Shit like this is why I don’t get why Parson’sput you in charge.”

Thiswas your standard ‘zombie apocalypse’. Only all the crap you seen on TV and inthe countless movies made it look like a cakewalk. It was hell on Earth...

Iremember seeing the news reports and the actual bombs flying overhead, allcarrying the toxin that was supposed to completely wipe us out.

It’swhat happens when you piss off the wrong people. An attempt at totalannihilation. Pleasant, right?

Fuckno.

Hell,I used to be scientist. Big corporation. Had a cozy little apartment on thegood side of town. The wife and I had a rat-looking mutt that hated my guts asalmost as much as I hated his. Had a good deal going. She didn’t have to work,I paid the bills. Standard nuclear family.

Wewere happy. I was on the easy path to a promotion. We’d be making even more,and I could move us to a house in the suburbs. We could have a fence for therat to run around in, and maybe some kids. Sandy always wanted a little girl.

Butthat was thirty years ago, I think… I lost track of time since I turned.

Sandy’slong been dead. She was one of the lucky ones. Instant death from the initial blast.I often wished I had the same fate.

“I’mserious, Earl.” He began boarding everything up again, one of the measures hehadn’t done before.

It wasthen I realized, he was telling the truth.

Noteven a minute later, I heard the scratching. The mindless zombies clawed at thefirst line of defense Parson had us set up.

Therewere three classes of the mindless, stereotypical, zombies.

The Savageswere batshit crazy. Attacked anything and everything that gets in their way.They’re about as useful as that one guy in the bar that usually tries to pick afight with a chair after he’s had one too many.

Runnersare fast. It’s best if you pick them off from afar, because you don’t stand achance when they get close. I believe they’d been clocked at speeds up to 25mph.

AndTanks are pretty self-explanatory. They have this exoskeleton that completelycovers them. Makes it hard to shoot them down. I’ve wanted to study it, butthere’s one problem. As soon as you finally manage to pierce their tough skin,they pop like a zit. Everything about them turns to goo. It’s ratherdisgusting.

DamienParson was one of the few ‘skins’ that dared to hang around us immortals. “Menamong low-life gods” was a term many of them liked to use within our earshot,or otherwise. But not Parson. Maybe that’s why so many of us followed him. Hekept us safe, and he treated us like normal people. Well, as normal as a sanezombie could be.

Butthe question on my mind as I boarded up the final window was simple.

How long did I have left?

Ihesitated putting up the final plank, looking out at the Savages below. NoRunners or Tanks this time.

“Pete.This ain’t no damn herd.” I sighed and put the plank down.

Noanswer.

“Pete?”I turned around to an empty room. The door to the stairwell was cracked open. “Youidiot!” I called after him, opening the door further so I could stick my headthrough the opening.

Whichwas the first and last mistake I was going to make that day.

A fistreached out and grabbed my ankle. It tugged and sent me flying to the ground,cracking my skull against the hardwood floors. All I could do was groan beforethe arm held me tighter and flung me down the stairwell. I got a brief glanceat what threw me as I soared through the musty air.

Itwasn’t just Savages.

Petereally wasn’t kidding.

ARunner that was hunched at the top step in the shadows started barrelingtowards me. His mouth hung open and it’s venomous drool pooled out of it’smouth like an over-eager bulldog.

Iheard the skittering of many more feet as I screamed and begged for help.

But Iknew help wouldn’t show.

Ilooked to my left to find what remained of Pete tucked in the corner. His facewas completely gone. I only recognized him by that stupid belt buckle with aneagle on it. I only hoped his death was as painless as possible.

And Iwished the same for myself as the Runner was nearly on top of me.

My time was up. I finally gotthe answer I’d been looking for.

do you prefer pre-infection jack or post?

That is a hard question! Post-infection sounds like he can thrown-down hella good in the sack and he’d be an amazing ally/protector… also he’s a lot more funny. Though pre-infection is my dream husband… early 50′s, beardy, likes his beer, hard working, family orientated, a disciplinary, stoic..

Question because I am admittedly not super well-versed in canon on Tarkin despite being a big fan of Peter Cushings and the character, but wasn't he in a relationship with a female admiral Dala? Or is that legends now? I love your blog by the way, all the Cushings love gives me life

uhhh the whole Natasi Daala thing is no longer canon yeah, it’s legends.. I wish she was still a canon character cuz she’s so kickass and all

Do you have any favorite Halloween traditions?

My one Halloween tradition is sorta lame but I love it. Been going on ten years now.

James and me go down to the farmers market by the marina and get a pumpkin each and then spend an afternoon on the front porch carving them. Usually we share some moonshine or beers or apple cider as well which is not super smart when handling parrying knives but we haven’t cut ourselves yet!

We usually can’t wait until later in the month so we end up getting pumpkins too early. Which means that by Halloween they’re all withered and full of fruit flies.

My personal tradition is a horror movie every day of October. I watched three today. XD and only one was decent.

Anyone else have some fun Halloween traditions?
