I thought I would switch up the books that I share for #HispanicHertiageMonth !! Fun fact: I have a minor in Spanish from THE George Mason University (#GoMason) and speak Spanish everyday to my littles, so that means... yes! I read to them in Spanish too! So, before this month is out, I thought I would share a few of my favorites. . . . Rainbow Weaver By Linda Elovitz Marshall and Illustrated by @elisachavarri is a cute story about a young Mayan girl, Ixchel, who really wants to learn how to weave and follow in her cultural tradition. However, there is not enough thread for Ixchel to practice because all of it is needed to create beautiful pieces to sell in the market. So, Ixchel figures out an innovative way to get what she wants!! . . . It is beautifully illustrated and a well crafted story that has ups and downs and ends in triumph! My kids really enjoyed it and learned a lesson in perseverance. We also loved the added touch of learning a few words in Kaqchikel, one of the Mayan languages spoken in Guatemala. This also led to a discussion about Guatemala, which my kids great-grandfather is from, so that added a touch of pride for them! . . . If you don’t speak Spanish, don’t worry, the English text is in the book as well! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #weneeddiversebooks #kidslit #childrensbooks #picturebooks #bookstagram #kidsbookstagram #bilingualbooks #bilingüe #mayanculture #guatemala #read #books #bookish #readersareleaders (at Washington, District of Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B27K8RHApnK/?igshid=cvr5pb3wge63
