“George listened to all kinds of music, music from his childhood. For instance, with ‘I Really Love You,’ he was about to record a song he’d written — can’t remember which one — and he suddenly said, ‘Hey, you know what this tempo reminds me of? It reminds me of the song from the Sixties, “I Really Love You.”’ And he started playing it, and just got diverted. And he recorded that instead. I wish I could remember which song reminded him. So he wasn’t really concerned with what was going on in the music world; in his music, that’s what was going on. And those particular times, whether he listened to Hoagy Carmichael or Cab Calloway, we would go on a musical journey for like months at a time. You would wake up to ‘Bugle Call Rag’ on the jukebox, that was his way of getting Dhani up for school. You know, loud. [laughs] He probably would have covered ‘Barnacle Bill the Sailor’ by now, you know, because he had a funny version of that. And it was all about the chords and notes and the sentiment.” - Olivia Harrison, Dark Horse Radio (November 2018)
george harrison mystical one demo how precious you are to me you could never know
i really wanna see you, lord, but it takes so long / in this darkness i wait for the day, yes it's true, i live for you / when life's through, you are the light in death itself / and that's me knocking on your door, and it's you i'm looking for, oh lord / that is all i'm living for, your love and nothing more / don't let me wait too long, don't let me wait too long, don't let me wait too long
I'm listening to "Mystical One" by George Harrison.
