Rainbow (24/31)
James looked at Dante, the shy smile that played on his lips, the blush creeping up his cheeks. He had seen this before, in girls, and he knew what it usually meant, but surely… Not Dante? They were just friends, right?
“There’s a picnic table over there,” Dante said, cutting off James’ thoughts. “That might be slightly more comfortable.”
As they sat at the table eating muffins and drinking the juice Dante had taken from the house, nothing of Dante’s earlier demeanour was visible anymore. He talked like he always did, and James wondered if he’d been mistaken.
Regrettably for James’ sore backside, they also had to ride back and walk from the ranch to the house, and by the time they got there, the sun was setting.
“Thanks, Dante,” James said as they got to the upstairs corridor where their paths would split. “You promised distraction, and this was definitely a distraction. And I guess these sore muscles will be a bit more distraction for the days to come,” he chuckled, rubbing his thigh with his right hand.
“You’re welcome,” Dante said, “And I recommend a hot shower for the aches and pains.”
James sighed, “I still don’t know what to do about Sadie, though…”
“Do you want my opinion?” Dante asked.
“Yes, please,” James said.
“Well, first of all, Sasha wouldn’t tell you you can have visitors if she thought visitors would uncontrollably spin your head again. She clearly thinks you can handle this. However, just because you can have visitors doesn’t mean you should. You can give it as much time as you like. That said, I stand by what I said before. Even if she has a boyfriend, Just tell her how you feel and then see what happens. Yes, maybe she won’t reciprocate your feelings, but in a way, wouldn’t it be best to know that now? While you’re here and you have some physical distance from her?”
James nodded slowly. It did sound simple, the way Dante said it. He needed to give this some more thought, but maybe Dante did have a point.
“Thank you… I’ll… consider it..,” he said.
Dante gently touched his forearm, “Don’t rush it,” he said, his lips curving in a kind smile, “there’s always time.”
