Personality: Doesn’t know much about the outside world (she’s quite late when it comes to receiving news), polite (especially to tourists), strong (in many ways), friendly towards others, a bit short-tempered at times. Bali has 2 younger siblings, Nusa Lembongan (I named her “Ni Nyoman Saras Widyastuti”, nickname: Saras) and the older one, Nusa Penida (His human name is “I Made Rama Agung Wijaya”, nickname: Rama)

Do they actually represent countries?

Here’s a little basic knowledge in Bali: - In Bali, people used different first names, depending on the gender and who’s older. If you’re a girl, you use the first name “Ni” but if you’re a male, you use “I”. Here are the names used after the gender thing (sorted from oldest to youngest): Putu/Gede/Wayan, Made/Kadek, Nyoman/Komang, Ketut (if it’s the 5th child, the cycle repeats again from Putu).

Here are the things you should know about Bali: - Back in the ancient times she would always follow the rules of her King or Ratu (as you say it in Balinese), never once she ever tried to rebel against it - She’s very religious, she goes to the temple every day. She celebrates religious events as unique and frivolous as possible. - She’s quite skillful at magic. She /CAN/ conjure black magic, but I guarantee it’s not a pretty sight. She gained such knowledge from her big sister/brother, Indonesia.

I'm fine with this, since it makes sense, but be careful not to abuse this. She might become a Mary Sue if you do.

- She's usually busy on: ~ Nyepi Nyepi is a Balinese "Day of Silence" that is commemorated every Isakawarsa (Saka new year) according to Bali's calendar (in 2012, it will be on March 23rd). It is a day of silence, fasting, and meditation. The day following Nyepi is also celebrated as New year. Observed from 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the next morning, Nyepi is a day reserved for self-reflection and as such, anything that might interfere with that purpose is restricted. The main restrictions are: no lighting fires (and lights must be kept low); no working; no entertainment or pleasure; no traveling; and for some, no talking or eating at all. The effect of these prohibitions is that Bali’s usually bustling streets and roads are empty, there is little or no noise from TVs and radios, and few signs of activity are seen even inside homes. For the whole day, you're not allowed to gain any kind of knowledge, and no, you can't read anything. - Her favorite flowers are frangipanis and jasmines~ :D ♥ - Legend has it that long ago, inside Gunung Agung, the highest mountain in Bali, resides a dragon called ‘Vasuki’. There was a legend that says that back in the old days, Java and Bali was one island, and there was a monk who was good friends with Vasuki. The monk lived with his son. The monk’s son, Manik Angkeran, loves to gamble but he always lost. He always ends up begging to his father for money to pay off the loan.  The monk lost all his fortune gradually. Then the monk came to the dragon and asks for some money. Of course, Vasuki granted his wish. But the same thing repeats over and over, Manik keeps asking his father for money to pay off his loans. One day, Manik decided to follow his father out of curiosity and met Vasuki. His mind was filled with greedy thoughts, the money that Vasuki gave him wasn’t enough. So Manik sneaked up behind Vasuki one day and decided to cut off his tail. Gold and diamonds are spilled everywhere. This angers Vasuki by the time he wakes up, he burned Manik.  When the monk found out about this, he begged Vasuki for forgiveness and wished that Vasuki revived Manik. Vasuki decided to forgive him and revived Manik on one condition, Manik must never come near Gunung Agung ever again. Then the monk decided to separate the island, and thus, Bali was born - ^ Ari believed that story above, and she believed many other legends. In other words, she's superstitious. - She’s not really fond of England and Netherlands for enslaving her and her people. But now that the war is over, England and Bali have a good relationship. While Bali’s relationship with Netherlands still needs a bit of improvement (because Netherlands rarely visits her =w=;;). - In the old days, she hunts animals for food, usually just wild boar. But most of the time she’s just a vegetarian.

- On 20th November 1946, one of Bali’s military officers, ‘I Gusti Ngurah Rai’, fought in the Battle of Marga (Balinese name: Puputan Margarana), rallied his forces in Margarana, Tabanan, where they made a suicide attack on the Dutchmen. The Balinese battalion was entirely wiped out, breaking the last thread of Balinese military resistance. - In 1946 the Dutch constituted Bali as one of the 13 administrative districts of the newly proclaimed State of East Indonesia, a rival state to the Republic of Indonesia which was proclaimed and headed by Sukarno and Hatta. So if you mentioned something that recently happened at America’s place, she won’t have a single clue what you’re talking about. She'll receive that news about 2-3 months later. =w=;; - Though she tried to make some modern improvements in her house, she still keeps some of her old cultures. - SHE LOVES SPICY FOOD. >BU - Ari enjoys dancing and music very much, it has a huge role in her culture. Drop the phrase thing, you don't need it.

Conclusion: Wait wait wait. A character that has no mental disorders whatsoever? Let me love you now. It's a good bio, but some things were unnecessary and should be put in a note. Her attitude towards Netherlands and England doesn't seem hateful enough in my opinion, especially since she was enslaved by them. Other than that, I loved this bio and will not censor your name.

Arthur Kirkland Bio - Good bio spotlight

I have no idea which Arthur this is, because the bio was submitted to us, but I love it and I think he deserves a good bio spotlight.

♔ About the 'Gentleman' ♔ Arthur has messy blonde hair and bright green eyes. Supposedly, he is short to the other nations, but is in average height for the English. He is said to look around 23 years old, quite young compared to some other nations. He has flawless looking skin, no blemish to be seen (from what people can see, at least). Perhaps he takes some special cream, who knows. That would be quite amusing for some people. People would guess that English have porcelain skin or the such, which seems to be true for Arthur's case.  A trait most people seem to remember and humiliate England by is his eyebrows. Compared to others, England's eyebrows are quite at a large size, seeing as how he refuses to pluck them. Some actually considered plucking them at the night for him. He does have scars, from various events. Most of the times, he tries to hide the scars that were from losing events, but does not mind showing off the scars from winning fights, often bragging about his victory. Also, he sometimes names those scars like a little child when he has nothing to do, but that's a secret. Usually, he is seen with normal clothes, along with a vest here and there. Arthur is also sometimes seen with a green military uniform, or whatever version of military uniform the United Kingdom has.  ♔ | Ｐｅｒｓｏｎａｌｉｔｙ| ♔ Arthur is a stubborn little man. He refuses to do anything he doesn't want to. He is set to be seen as the perfect gentleman, just how America is set on seen as the hero. Arthur still has his sense of chivalry, since the Medieval times. He treats women better than men, he doesn't give a damn about men. He still has his rebellion streak, slowly stared since his pirate years and got stronger as he got into his punk years. Often, Arthur tries his best to remain calm and keep intact with his emotions, it really is hard with a man that has a short temper.  He tries to dress his best, as the saying goes, "Dress to impress". Nonetheless, he does have his 'lazy days'; he'll just throw on the first thing he sees and there. Arthur can be quite the perfectionist, often wondering in his mind how he can make things look... 'perfect'. Perhaps this was due to his past, filled of unsettling and unwanted feelings; those feelings making him want to make everything 'perfect' in his future at times. Living off in a fairy world, Arthur often daydreams and doesn't pay attention when needed. Since a small age, Arthur has been fascinated in the stories of other worlds, other places where there were dancing faeries and laughter throughout the air. Most of this was due to forget his brothers, who were often treating him badly. He is a curious Brit who loves learning new things, depending on the situation. If he isn't annoyed yet, he listens to your story politely. However, if he's in an annoyed mood, he'd rather you tell him another day, because he'll just forget the story later on. Of course, he would ask politely.  Arthur is quite reserved towards people, he often wonders what people actually think of him while he watches from afar if he happens to see anyone. He doesn't mind the solitude sometimes, finding it quite relaxing to not have anyone yell in his ear moment to moment. It does get quite lonely at times, and he wonders if he's too cold to people? Too strict? Too boring? He just goes on with his day. He's a sensitive person, often hurt at the insults people say towards him. This doesn't mean that the Brit doesn't shoot off his own insults, because he does. Sharp and quick with his mouth, this Brit is fully loaded with insults waiting to come out. Oh boy, if he has a grudge against you, prepare to be fully insulted.  If you are new to the Brit, he may seem bi-polar to you at first. When meeting, he's a sweet, charming gentleman but in a few days, he'll be a swearing sailor, taking no mind with you there. His pirate days never left him, he has his anger and violence inside of him; waiting to come out. Of course, the gentleman having more time in English history, he mostly plays that part. He does not insult or swear at first meeting...most of the time.   ♔ Are these what you call 'headcanons'...? ♔  After American had gained his independence and was no longer a colony of England, Arthur suffered paranoia. Arthur was never one who forgot abandonment and betrayal so lightly, you see. Those feelings came back once he lost, seeing Alfred wherever he went. He refused to accept the defeat to a much younger- one of his colonies to make it worse- country than himself, the constant hallucinations a reminder. Along with those scars as well. He suffered of short sleep, often waking up from nightmares. Those times were difficult times for him. Arthur often had bags under his eyes from lack of sleep, getting weaker and growing lankier. Truth be told, something usual happened whenever England lost a colony, and Arthur didn't like it at all. Arthur shares the United Kingdom's title with his brothers; Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Do you think that they can be ignored? No. England is usually responsible of the nation, seeing as how England conquered North Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Seeing how he was bullied by his brothers when he was younger, Arthur began having imaginary friends when he was hanging out by himself, being an anti-social little boy. He didn't know what he saw at first, but Arthur continued seeing the fairies, goblins, and whatnot. He never told anyone about this, you see, until he was coming home from a chat with his imaginary friends. Scotland was the first to know, Arthur telling him excitedly about his new friends. Word spread quickly about the imaginary friends within the Kirkland family.  Arthur and Francis, even if they hate each other, share a smoke once in a while. This means that Arthur smokes.  Arthur learned magic from Scotland.  Seeing how many Brits were addicted/selling to Opium, Arthur obviously was as well. He still has an addiction towards drugs, an addiction like that is hard to forget. No, he doesn't have a strong addiction towards Opium or any drug, but craves it once in a while. Arthur tries his best to fight down the crave, though. No, he does not have a bloody guitar with him every day. Maybe he'll use it, but Arthur still has that guitar for old time's sake. He always did like his punk years, you see. No, he doesn't have a dark side, last time I checked. He just gets so grumpy he doesn't have any 'vision' of what he is doing, such as insulting and whatnot. If you're a female, he will apologize if he realizes what he did. If you're a male well, no apology for you. That's how it works in Arthur's mind.

R e l a t i o n s  [ unofficial / meaning, not in RP / ] Sealand He does care about the little one, but doesn't want to show. He doesn't want to get emotionally attached with Sealand, because he only thinks that Peter will grow up and become like America.  Scotland/Ireland/Wales [ both Northern and independent Ireland ]  They seemed to have hated him since Arthur was a child. Arthur never really knew why, and he didn't want to ask. Rocks being thrown at him wasn't how he planned his days, really. Arthur secretly admired all of his older brothers, as he found it amazing how they could be on their own without help, most of the time. One day, he swore to his 'friend' that he would be an independent nation like his brothers, that promise echoing through his mind while he slowly feel asleep.  To this day, he has that promise coming back to him once in a while. He loves his brothers, to be honest. He insults and the such, but he would care if any of his brothers got hurt or the such. America  Yes, he has admitted that the young nation is no longer his colony, nor is there hope he would be once again. Truth be told, Arthur is quite proud of America. He thinks that America has done well for himself and has managed to not get so greedy. Too much, at least. Nonetheless, he is proud of him, but would rather for him to lessen on the hamburgers. Seriously.

Arthur's likes include the occasional rock music, depending on the artist. Arthur isn't just going to like every rock song just because it's from the rock section, you see. It doesn't work like that. Tea is one of his top favorite drinks, as well as the occasional soda here and there. He does like crumpets, as well as biscuits and whatnot, but that's not all he eats all day. The poor man does get sick of those foods if he eats them all day. Traditional home meals are his favorite, really. That's what he grew up with and that's what will be his favorite. He likes a quick stroll around his country, often feeling happy when he sees citizens happy. Arthur li-no, loves reading books. The fantasy section seems to be his favorite, but he doesn't ignore all the other sections.  The Brit likes a smoke, often doing so in his free time.

How to make a good bio

Hello Mr. Tea,

I was wondering if you would be so kind as to review my little sister's OC. As she is still trying to flesh the character out we would like to have the opinion of an unbiased third party to tell us where it may be that she is lacking. Here's the link and the name in case that doesn't work.

Hi there.

I've read her bio and it's pretty good, but of course she can do some things to improve it. Here's my advice:

The first thing in a bio should be basic information. I didn't know which state she represents until she mentioned it later in the bio. Basic information means her full name, the state/country she represents and her human age (there's no need for the actual age, since it never plays an important role in roleplay). 

Next is physical appearance. Sure, I can look at pictures, but I want to know exactly what she looks like. How tall is she? When roleplaying a short character, you can make them very self-conscious about their height. What color are her eyes and hair? Does she have any scars? Keep in mind that scars should represent important wars your nation has fought.

Next is personality. A few days ago I made a post about big five personality traits, which can be found here. Another thing you might find helpful is this.

After personality, you may add a short history about your character, but don't make it too long. If you want to explain all important historic events that happened in your character's life, you should do so in a note and add a link to it in your bio.

Relationships are also important. Describe what kind of relationship your character has with some of the nations she interacts with the most.

Headcanons is always an interesting section and it makes your character unique.

Don't forget to include some information about yourself, such as your age (some people are uncomfortable roleplaying smut with very young roleplayers), your time zone and your preferences regarding roleplay. Which genres do and don't you do?
