hey!! do u have any advice on how to get people to read ur fics on tumblr? I'm new to writing and it doesn't even show up in the tags :(
hmmmm okay so ahahah idk myself! I think you should understand what people want, even when it comes to graphics and banner. a very good banner attracts a lot of attention. consider using apps like canva for example hehe
also, first of all, very ruthless 😳✋ write for a very popular member at first. something not too long and not too short. tag it accordingly. you can do something around 1k for example.
second of all. of course, smut is read wayyy more. I'm not saying you should write smut if you're uncomfortable and trust me, there are so many ppl who don't even want smutty fics. but it's a phenomenon that happens and we can't just pretend to be blind. smut is read a lot.
3. don't write a lot of stuff before the actual fic. don't comment your own fic either unless there's something you want to say specifically. (don't say "hi everyone. I'm back with my new fic. I'm sorry I haven't been around much on Tumblr but I have been away because etc etc). unfortunately the reader doesn't care and it just looks cluttered. give the fic info and that's it. what I mean is just write "member name x yn", genre (keep it quite simple too), warnings, words. that's it. please avoid stuff like putting your "writing skills" as a warning bc it's amusing yes, but ppl will take you seriously and won't read your fic. pretend you're confident. also don't say stuff like "i apologize for my bad writing, this is not proofread and there's so many typos and this fic is shit haha" because people won't read it. you do it because you want to prepare others mentally and yourself for future criticism (which won't even be there) by being "haha I know my fic is shit already, don't tell me pls don't criticize it" but you don't need it and it just puts the reader off too.
4. write in paragraphs. don't leave all the text mushed together because it's difficult to read. everytime something changes, start a new paragraph.
5. use some sort of separation if there's a time jump of location jump so people don't get confused.
6. don't write about sudden emotional change that hasn't been processed well. i.e.
"Are you coming to dinner tonight?" Taeyong asked with a smile.
why is yn screaming? what's going on? if you need to show something changing inside a character, add some other lines before, or right after. make characters very real, like real people behaving irl.
7. write something either very common, a kiss scene, thigh riding lol, etc that will always be liked or something very uncommon to attract people's attention. don't write very hard and incredible fics if it's your first work tho. people won't read it. first fics should be fun and easy to go through. you might have done 1 month of research, you wrote a high fantasy novel, incredible writing, and ppl still won't read it. write something you want to write but still very entertaining. when you'll have a big following you can introduce complex fics because people will know how your write and will dive into anything you put out. if they don't know you, unless the concept sounds very good, they might not want to read it
8. BE INCLUSIVE IF YOU WRITE ABOUT YN. please don't mention skin colour, hair texture, body type, etc etc etc unless you're writing about an original character (oc)
9. specific to smut genre. try to be a bit original and realistic when it comes to writing nsfw scenes. maybe avoid the same phrases we see everywhere "you're so tight", "you're so big", "taste like candy", "jeno made me cum 20 times" (??????? you alive????), "he teased me for 3 hours" (not realistic), "angry red tip", precum being there (it's not always there), yn cums and she wets the whole ass bed (only if you pee, that's not realistic 😔). a virgin being a sex expert. etc I think keeping a smut scene a bit fresh can make the reader more interested in your work
