For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10
When Jesus told us, "In the world you shall have tribulation," he spoke from experience. From being misunderstood by most, falsely accused and attacked by the religious leaders of the day, betrayed by one and denied by another of his disciples to mocking, scourging and crucifixion on a cross, he experienced pain and suffering in all its manifestations. In doing so, he fulfilled what was spoken of him and secured our salvation.
Considering Jesus' words and his example, how is it that troubles seem to so often find us unaware and complaining. If he had to go through suffering to complete the Father's plan of redemption, though he did no wrong, how is it we think it strange that we should have problems? You do not make rough wood smooth using smooth paper. Instead, you start with the most coarse sandpaper required them less coarse as the wood get smoother.
We get our rough edges removed through the challenges that we face. Problems remind us that there are still lessons to be learned and growth to be had. As strange as it may sound, they are also a reminder that God loves us too much to leave us the way we are and knows that comfortable people rarely see a need to change and reach higher.
No longer view pain and suffering as something to be avoided but rather as potential teachers. God is not finished with you yet!
