Asks about Shattered:
If vampires could turn humans and August was unable to help Declan with the experimental cure, would August consider turning him to save him? Would he view it as a kinder fate than being trapped in his own body or would his own self loathing lead him to viewing it as worse?
And how would Declan handle the transformation? Would he still try to get in contact with his family? Would he try to take revenge on Vince now that he can't be persuaded?
Oh! It would depend on their progress and relationship!
If Declan was still in the comatose like state, August would not turn him - even if it were the last resort to save his life. Turning would be such a heavy burden to inflict upon Declan without knowing whether that is what he would want; to live as a monster, cast out from human territory/from his loved ones, forced to survive on human blood, immortality? Outliving all those he loves? August would almost view it as a kindness to let Declan pass on rather than be inflicted with such a curse.
But just for the sake of it, let's say August did turn Declan - idk maybe he thought he was doing the right thing by him? After all, he's a doctor - he's supposed to save his patients, not let them die, right?
Declan would NOT handle the transformation well at all. He would be inconsolable. Repulsed. He would rather have died a painful death than become what he despises and fears most. He would never try to get in contact with his family, nor would he attempt to return home. He could never forgive August - with his strength returned he would run away and never look back. Maybe he'd go on to desperately seek a cure or reversal.
But he wouldn't go after Vince. He's still beyond traumatised and petrified and even if Vince can't persuade him; he's physically stronger, wealthier, powerful - and wouldn't put it past Vince to keep Declan just as a little pet. Eternal suffering doesn't sound too appealing for him.
