There was so much healing for me in this episode of @laylafsaad’s #GoodAncestor Podcast. @goodancestorpodcast || Let me tell you something, an easy way to know what people struggle (or have struggled) the most with is to look at the areas where they are excellent; their calling. People tend to do their highest vibrational work in the tender spaces from which they have been delivered or are being delivered. I had a broken heart; God called me to minister to the broken hearted. I dealt with (sometimes still deal with)#ImposterSyndrom and feelings of inadequacy that often left me (leave me) waiting for permission; God called me to teach/preach the gospel of #DecolonizingAuthority. 💁🏾‍♀️ One dope thing abt purpose tho, is not only will God call you but the Most High will also surround you with folk that might not have your EXACT calling but they certainly have a work that is in line with your message because we are all ONE body connected by the All. Our purposes coincide. It’s how I am called to teach abt Decolonization and God connected Layla and I because part of her calling is to center the ancestors and our present work of becoming Good Ancestors. Do you get how that’s connected? We can’t decolonize anything if we don’t think abt the elders and the ancestors. That’s pretty much in the Top 3 steps of what to do to decolonize everything! Know you are already standing on the shoulders of the Beloved. You’re qualified! Go! 👩🏾‍💻 The more I do work around Decolonizing everything the more I feel a deepening in my calling to teach, preach, train and equip folk with TANGIBLE tools to establish themselves in their work. There are moments in my life when, even tho my family supported me, they did not agree with me and they did not understand me. I never held that against them. Moments like this a reminder for me and for them that when they stood at the front of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church and “gave me back to God” the Most High actually knew how to take it the rest of the way. This is such a kind affirmation. Actually, kind isn’t a powerful enough word to express how this moves me. What a blessed life it is when you show up because the earth is groaning waiting for us to be revealed! 😍 Have you listened to the @goodancestorpodcast episode with myself and @laylafsaad yet? I remember coming into knowing who @laylafsaad was. It was from a video of hers that was going viral where she was basically reading white supremacy for filth in a way that was so familiar to me and my girlfriends but with this beautiful accent! I was sold! Lol! Then I saw how white women, who called themselves allies, were running amuck in her comment section and I was like, “NOT ON MY WATCH!” I would be in her comment section cutting UP on her behalf because she lives in Qatar so sometimes she would be sleep and folk wld be carrying on. I would go to their ashy private pages (don’t nobody care abt your daily Starbucks order and your cat Shimmery Shinkens) and I would report you to IG (Knowing they weren’t going to find anything offensive by you attacking a black woman - but I just enjoy reporting racism to see what will happen)... and then I’d slide into Layla’s DMs and send her inappropriately funny gifs, memes, and hilariously relatable Beyonce stories. Because my #GoodAncestor work is abt making sure all the black girls are well. Even the ones I only know as a result of Betty Shabazz’s Internet. 🤷🏾‍♀️ This podcast might be one of the most important conversations I’ve had, on record, to date. My hip hop womanist work is (obviously) rooted in liberation theology in its praxis. Dr. James Cone had a Big 3 that guided his preachment/teaching: Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin. I tried to pick three as I was creating my own framework but I have a Big 4: Zora Neale Hurston, Dr. Emelie Townes, Toni Morrison, and Jay Z. - All 4 for different reasons but the things in common is memory/memorization. I'm ALWAYS talking about memory. My grandmother is in the eternal. 3 full years as of 12/21. But she is present. Not in my imagination... in my skin. I literally re-member her daily. My goal (as Layla Saad calls it) as a #GoodAncestor is to remember her for more than her trauma. I am remembering her for her wisdom, her wonder, and her glory. Too often black people start their memory stories with grief and trauma and loss but my grandmother was a beautiful woman with an incredible #selfCare routine and rituals. She was (is) funny, intelligent, jazzy, unapologetically black, and necessary. @nikkiblak says, "My body is an ofrenda. My life is the altar." Got to talk abt being a #GoodAncestor with @laylafsaad today. You know how after a Pastor preaches real good you feel worn out like you need a nap? That’s me. Conversation was so good I needed a break (that I still haven’t gotten yet). So grateful for the times when the World Wide Web creates real relationship and community. Layla is my beloved.
