ein Jahr ist vorbei. Bin schon wieder drei Wochen in München.
You know we can get away, because I'm calling your name.
Austin brushed his teeth in a circular motion. Starting with the left side and then slowly working towards the right. He brushed all around a few times and stuck out his tongue to brush that down. He spit into his bathroom sink and rinsed his mouth. Austin washed his brush and set it down and smiled at himself in the mirror. He grabbed a comb out of the drawer and combed his hair back. There was nothing much to do with his hair in the first place. He combed it through a few times before setting the comb back to his place.
Austin grabbed his books from his dresser and slipped into a pair of sweats and a gray tee-shirt. Just another normal day for him. He'd go to school, grab a bite to eat after classes and come home and work on his homework and study; occasionally text Lea about stupid things to distract himself.
Lea. Her name was just as pretty as her. He hasn't stopped thinking about her for a while now. Her name coming to mind put a smile on the young boys face.
Austin didn't realize he was standing in the middle of the living room fantasizing about her until he heard a knock echo throughout the apartment. He jumped slightly at the sound and ran to open the door. He turned the knob to the door only to find an empty hall. He peeked his head out and looked around, "Hello?" He called. But nothing answered back. Just silence. "Hellooo?" He called out again. Nothing.
Austin was just about to head back inside and wait till it was time to leave but he stopped at the sight of an envelope sitting on his welcome mat. He bent down and picked it up, and uneasy feeling settling in his stomach. He ripped open the envelope to find a note. His eyes scanned the ripped paper, tears blurred his visions. Slowly they fell onto the paper.
You have 12 hours to decide what you're going to do. It's exactly 9 am right now, isn't it? By tomorrow, 4-11-14 at 9 am you must make a choice. You can make it earlier, or later. I don't care. As long as blood is spilled. Your choices are:
Lea's death.
Your death.
Oh but here's the fun part, little Austin. If you decide to choose Lea, I'd make you watch her die; I'd make you watch her take her last breath right before you and you can't do anything about it. Isn't it a doctors oath to protect or heal or whatever? If you choose yourself. You'd have to end your life by yourself. Yes, how awful?
Now get choosing, boy.
Austin read the note one more time. He flipped it over and looked all over to see if it was some sort of joke. He fell back into his apartment. Too stunned to say anything. It was either him or her. Why would he want to die? After years of struggling to keep himself from his thoughts, he was being told to kill himself. Told. Never in a million years would he have thought he'd be in this situation. Austin ran his fingers through his hair.
Or they'd kill Lea in front of him.
He couldn't bare that. Watching the life leave her eyes, the blood spill onto the floor and he himself lay beside her helpless because he couldn't save her in time.
Austin stared at the note one more time before crumpling it and throwing it to the side. He got up and closed the door to his apartment. He then called up his professor and told him he wouldn't be coming in today. He then slid down and cried, cried harder than he had ever before. He shook his head and looked up to the ceiling, "I .. don't want to go." He said softly before yelling the words out.
He got up from the floor and wiped his face.
He had work to do.
A few hours later.
Austin laid out the gifts on his bed in order, gifts he had gone out and bought for the people who he deeply cared for.
He printed out a picture of Justin and Selena and took times taping his and Merelle's face over it. It looked horribly stupid but it was worth it. He then got Aceline a solid badge with her name engraved on the back. He then printed out a picture of them looking badass in their C.I.A. suits that one day. Austin chuckled at the memory, they failed -- miserably. The third thing he lined up on his bed was a frame of Abbey and Austin. They looked stupid in the picture, but again. It was worth it. He bought her a bag of candy and kissed it before setting above their faces.
Last but not least, Lea. He picked up the black velvet box with the gift inside. He opened the box up and admired the diamond bracelet that sat perfectly inside. He engraved their date on it, and he planned to sneak it in her room tonight.
He admired the gifts one last time before running to find some paper. He grabbed two sheets from his binder and admired them, and then his book.
"I spent.. four years striving to be something I can't fulfill." His tone broken. He sat down on his desk and quickly scribbled a note for Abbey. After getting that out of the way, he paced himself while writing Lea's.
Tears rolled down his cheek and down onto the paper. "Stay strong." He told himself repeatedly. Mid way through the paper he broke. He cried out in pain. "I'm so sorry. I'm.. I'm so sorry." He said to the silence surrounding himself. "Merelle, Aceline, Abbey.. Lea.. I love you guys." He let the tears stream down his face and onto his desk.
The last thing he'll use before it's time to end it.
