I did the audiobook for Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land. “Millie’s mother is a serial killer. She made Millie watch. And Millie turned her in. So Millie lives with a foster family now. But things are not much better...” Another book from my #backlist Millie is a great character. You ache for the horror she experienced as a child. And it is pure horror. But Millie has a darrkkk side. And she is willing to do things to make sure her life is better. And whatever it takes to keep her mother in jail. Book had a couple of slow spots but great finish. Great book if you like a character with secrets. And Millie has plenty. Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land 

I just recently read this thriller while on my honeymoon in Orlando. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. 

Good Me Bad Me is a  recently published psychological suspense novel by a brand new author. Milly’s mother is a serial killer. And she’s finally been caught after murdering nine children in her home. “How does she get caught?” you ask. Milly has turned her in to the police. After years of mental and physical abuse, Milly has decided to end her mother’s horrific hobby. After her mother’s arrest, Milly moves in with a foster family and spends her days trying to fit in at a new school. She works with her foster father, a psychologist, to prepare to testify against her mother. But Milly has trouble overcoming her traumatizing past. 

Throughout the novel, we are exposed to the inner workings of Milly’s unique brain. She struggles with adapting to “normal” family life. Milly has scary and violent thoughts and flashbacks that she tries to repress. She has secrets but they aren’t your typical teenage girl secrets. These are big, nasty, soul shaking secrets. Milly has seen things. Terrible things. The things of nightmares. Bottling up her emotions and refusing to open up to her foster father/psychologist causes tension in the household. Milly and her foster sister, Phoebe, clash from day one. But it only gets worse with time as Pheobe begins to feel jealousy towards Milly. This jealousy comes to a height in a dramatic climax that will smack the reader in the face.

While reading this novel, the question of nature vs. nurture will run laps trough your mind. Will Milly turn out like her mother? Does she have that evil inside her too? Or is Milly going to break the mold and focus on the good? I mean, she did turn her murderous mother into the police after all. 

Yes, this novel is disturbing but you will devour it as fast as possible. Ali Land has a pure and natural talent for writing and I sincerely hope she publishes more soon.

I don’t usually post twice in one day, but I’ve suddenly realised that I didn’t share my favourite books of 2017... It’s now 2018 (only the second day in, i can be forgiven🙊) Anyway, I had a few but I whittled it down to these three: The Power by Naomi Alderman 📚 Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur 📚 Good Me Bad Me by Ali Land 📚 I loved The Power because it’s the first kind of feminist women rule book I’ve ever read. And I thought it was great! I mean it wasn’t like all just women if you’re not into that stuff, the characters were both men and women, just the women, erm, killed the men??? The whole theme is that the women have found they were born with a Power, which they use to control, well men... Who don’t have the power ✌🏻 Milk and Honey was the first poetry book I read, and enjoyed! More then enjoyed, fell in love with! 🥛🍯 I have Washi taped a load of my fave poems, and it’s so easy to just pick up and read a little bit of now and then. I added Good Me Bad Me to my faves of 2017 because I literally read it in one and a half days... Yes. I spent all day and a whole morning devouring this book and being very pleasantly (or you could say unpleasantly) suprised at the end!
