I thought about it, and the way Mephisto could be about Aqua would be that he's expressing his feelings towards Sarina. But even that doesn't work because the song has lyrics of "I want to become you". So.. No matter how I take of it, It really isn't about Aqua.

That song IS indeed Kamiki's. That has certainly been confirmed. It's not Aqua expressing his longing towards Ai, it's Kamiki talking about his "love"(may it be twisted or not)in regards to Ai(and if we do bring mythology into this, Ai really is supposed to be his other half. They function together to restore balance of the world, share shrines, are worshiped together and are very much in love. Without her, he can't be himself. That seems to be how those two gods, amenouzume and sarutahiko, are supposed to be.)

He must be a favorite of the author's or for the artists involved, his lore at least, if he has TWO whole songs dedicated to him revolving around his feelings towards Ai, but what would be the point of having an insane psycho's mind being THAT emphasized?

That's sort of...another meta reason I believe this can't be all. When you dive into what those songs are speaking of, what it's implying isn't so simple. There are some really vague ideas going around that imply of wishes and divinity and have some fantasy elements to it, I kinda do think those shouldn't be there if it's not relevant in the first place.

I really hope they tackle that!♥♥ it's what I look forward to still
