remove frames: miss out on a lot of detail unless your source material is already a lowish framerate, fine for really short gifs and cartoons and films where you don't need EVERY DAMN FRAME but i hate making short gifs and i usually already remove at least half of the frames anyway

remove colours: disgusting

dither to make up for removed colours: actually pretty good, pattern style dithering looks very visually appealing to me at least but it like doubles the filesize so it's usually not an option unless i'm working with a small image

no dithering: disgusting but allows for more colours which is sometimes okay and i can also add lossy...ness which REALLY helps the filesize but also looks gross. there is just no winning at 500px unless i totally give up on how nice it looks or put in a LOT of effort with selective colours and stuff that i just. dont feel like doing at all, ever

or i could do that awful thing where you just cut out only the bits that move and leave the rest alone but then you get that awful sliding effect because the background is static and i refuse to make gifs like that. that is ugly and i hate that so much

i get that they need to put a limit on gifs because especially on mobile when i get a photoset with like 10 huge gifs in a row it just RUINS my phone but it's frustrating when you care about quality :(
