Ran across this photo of my parents from 2015. We (@fionakarbowski) are having lunch celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. Mom passed in 2018 after their 66th. Dad passed in 2019. Both men and women want to be good parents. In the United States, in the modern era, a worryingly high percentage (24%) of fathers are living apart from some or all of their children according to a Pew Research Center analysis of 2011 to 2015 data from the National Survey of Family Growth . There appears to be a mismatch between what fathers want, which is to be with their children more, and what the reality for many of them is. A Pew Research survey from 2010 and 2011 found that 94% of women and 91% of men, aged 18 to 64, said that being a good parent was one of the most important things or very important in their lives.
