Christmas Blessings: A Savior Who Is Christ The Lord

Christ was conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary, the betrothed wife of Joseph of the house and lineage of David. 

"And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!" (Luke 2:7-14)

Rejoice in His unfailing love; proclaim the good news of His salvation, from day to day. "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace." (Ephesians 1:7)

The Lord who ascended on high, to the right hand of God, is transforming our lives from glory to glory, by His Spirit. He shall come again, to receive His church to Himself, and we shall see Him face to face.

The Lord be magnified, the Lord be glorified, the Lord be exalted, in heaven above and the earth beneath. Amen.

Allaah, The Exalted and the Glorified revealed in Verse 14 of Surat LuQmaan which means:

Allaah urges one to treat one’s parents nicely, for one’s mother carries one in her womb with all the weakness that she receives from that, and she nurses one up to two years. Hence, one needs to be thankful to God and thankful to one’s parents.

And It Was Revealed

Allaah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing; and He, the Exalted and the Glorified gave you hearing, sight and hearts. Be mindful of that and thank Him.

(Surat An-NaHl, Aayah 78)

Good Tidings 🎄

YES! No. Not a lunatic. Haha! Today’s Sunday Times Body+Soul is all about mitigating stress at Christmas and I’ve certainly had some doozies in years gone by. But one is supposed to live and learn right? And I HAVE! 😇

I write a list and buy gifts in November when the shops are empty (they were deserted this year); I no longer hand-craft cards - I don’t even send them; I never make pastry; I refuse to shell prawns; the cooking and cleaning is shared; food is delicious but uncomplicated; and we gave up driving 200km to attend lunch with the other side of the family many years ago. In fact, we go nowhere other than the 500m to my brother’s house if it’s his turn to host. Maybe the beach. 🐳

One nightmare year when the kids were small and the husband was stranded at an airport overseas, I foolishly went ahead and hosted Christmas Eve for the dozen in my family, was up until 1.00am cleaning (with genuinely useful help from my dear little son) the sticky mess smeared throughout by toddler nephews, before packing the car and driving the aforementioned 200km. There, I had a crate of prawns dumped on me with demands to shell and present them with a lovely salad in time for lunch. I was young and acquiescent back then… (You can see that I learned LOTS of lessons that year. Or one: NEVER AGAIN!) 👿

BUT… I DO get excited for Christmas because I love having my family around me; I love giving presents (and opening them!); I love to share yummy, wholesome food; I love fairy lights and a sparkling Christmas tree (even if I did take five days pottering about after work to finish it this year). I acknowledge that Christmas is a religious festival, and whether you are Christian or not, it celebrates the birth of an astounding spiritual leader and historical figure. But for me it is about love and sharing, not stressing over a turkey. That said, I decided to do a turkey for dinner this year! 😂

So yep, I am unashsmedly already engulfed in a haze of warm anticipation of the delights of 25 December because, regardless of how tender the turkey is, I’ll be with my loved ones. 🎄❤👼
