Tonight I thought I’d mess around with something I’ve had for a long time but never figured out how to use; Google Nik presets. I’ve made extensive use of a few select presets on Google’s Snapseed app for my mobile phone photography, and for a long time now I’ve been looking for something fun to play with in Lighroom. In my opinion, the Analog Effects that the Nik collection has works pretty well. There’s definitely a lot of filters that I found totally useless; ones meant to look like expired or cross-processed film and other odd effects. But I quickly explored through and found a few that I liked and edited a few new and some old photos. These are just a few of the ones I played with. Overall I’d recommend the Google Nik collection, but it can be complex to get working on a Windows computer and it has a lot of extra fluff in it.

Google Nik Efex doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles but it can certainly produce some lovely results. My first attempt yesterday used HDR Efex to combine the RAW images, however, I find the result appears to be a little cleaner if I use Lightroom to combine the images into HDR –…
