Monday March 10, 2014 Well, we started our morning off with a little cardio. To our slight dismay, traveling in New York always takes us a little longer than expected. So as we made our way to Google NYC, we found out how well our shoes stood up against the sidewalks of New York. At Google NYC, in the Chelsea Market building, we met John Militello (a CCS alumnus) and he gave us a great tour of the various offices. We saw a range of workspaces, kitchen areas, bleachers, scooters, and even a rock-climbing wall. John also took us to the ZOO, where he works, and explained a few of the Google projects that he is really excited about. John shared a quote from former CCS Graphic Design Department Chair, Lothar Hoffmann, that he remembers: "The worst assignment you can give a designer is a blank piece of paper." Designers welcome parameters. Such parameter becomes a springboard for research and creativity, even if the parameters end up bent and broken in the process. After a generous amount of John's time, we were able to wander around Chelsea Market, and head to lunch at Big Daddy's Diner on Park Ave. We are sad to report that Stefan Sagmeister was not feeling well on Monday, so he was unable to host us for the Salon Night portfolio review as planned. Since we were already in the neighborhood, we decided to drop off the gift we had to the studio. The next morning, we received a very sweet email from Stefan Sagmeister, himself, apologizing and thanking us for our gift. Needless to say, we are looking so forward to our next trip, so we can reschedule our Salon Night portfolio review then. And we wish him a very quick recovery. Stay tuned... Angie and Sam
