December 19, 2017. I went down to the #nationalmall to see what all the Dreamer action was about. There were much less people than I expected for a movement that was in the national news and had a lot of support all over social media. I also wasn't expecting to meet Senators out there marching with these young people. The #SupremeCourt is slated to make a decision about DACA this summer. It's hard to see this as anything but racist. Whatever you feel about adults entering our country outside of immigration laws, these Dreamers are children who were brought here when they were young enough to have no say in the matter. Allowing them to stay involves very strict regulations on their college education, their work status, and I believe even their criminal status. They pose no threat and drain no resources. They've lived here almost all their lives, some of them not even realizing they weren't citizens. Some have no family in the countries where they were born. Some don't speak the language fluently. It would be cruel and unusual to force them back. But the current racist administration is looking to make an example out of them and show absolutely no hint of being humane. Easy to do if you don't see brown or black people as human. It was so good to meet @elizabethwarren that night. She is exactly what she appears to be. A normal person fighting the corporations and the systems that harm normal people. I was extremely disappointed she didn't/couldn't stay in the race. I was really hoping to vote for her and that she would be the first woman U.S. President. #googlephotosarchive #instagraminthetimeofcorona #dmvnessa #DACA #unitedwedream https://www.instagram.com/p/CAas2HRhC_j/?igshid=4kaln060hpu0
Omagah. Just the simple act of walking around DC. I'm so sad that I'm missing spring and yet even by summer I'll probably be too scared to walk very far near very many other people. #streetphotography #googlephotosarchive #instagraminthetimeofcorona #dmvnessa (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_7h8KJBnk6/?igshid=8ale25zcte7u
My relationship with New York City is almost impossible to put into words. It shares characteristics with other large international cities and yet in many ways is a world unto itself, in it's own category. The pros and cons of growing up there are too many to list, and oddly some of the pros are a direct result of the cons. I'll just say that I love who I am today, and I wouldn't be her if she weren't first a New Yorker. | Brooklyn, 2015. Took this with whatever phone I had at the time. @brooklynbridgepark #brooklynbridgepark #juststayhome #socialdistancing #flattenthecurve #googlephotosarchive #newyorknessa (at Brooklyn Bridge Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-hhrepB9zj/?igshid=1ekz8wzmenly1
