D&D really did shit in making the north people not like Daenerys, and in the books there is almost no indication that targaryens were not welcome, sure, they were closed and suspicious but it's just a characteristic of them they didn't treat targaryens in the disgusting way they did with dany, imagine thinking the north hates targaryens
Less about Targaryens and more about how Daenerys brought in darker-skinned foreigners who the maesters and septons for years of "southron" Westerosi also have demonized as evil magic people posed to endanger Andal-following Westerosi. Her doing this, the northners being the most isolated Westerosi aside from maybe the Dornish, AND her having grown up in Essos, as D&D positioned and tried to present, then figured her as a "foreigner".
