AU Background (Jacaerys x S!Reader)

As some of you have noticed, most of my writing samples so far consist of an AU Stark!Reader x Jacaerys Velaryon.

I like to challenge myself by seeing how closely I can stick to the cannon, have my liberty of action in their plot holes or missing fragments, or perhaps simply moments that I can say happened while something else crucially was unfolding. That is, when I wish to see how much I can mess around without actually breaking anything that the cannon consists of. This AU however is, let's say an ideal ending for Jacaerys and Stark!Reader. There is a detailed plot line all the way to a child OC and two dragons OC, and the dragons' tales go beyond HOTD events all the way into ASOIAF. Their tales mostly don't disturb the cannon, until the ending that is because it appears everyone hates the TV series end so I took liberty into making my own version on that one. I am sharing bits from the dialog of Reader instead of the story in full because, quite frankly these are the interesting parts and the overall plot of it has already been written, and I don't see myself able to write it again but as a detailed series. I share the dialog because I naturally can't have everything Reader says work out in the green's favours. I don't want everything to workout naturally, but I don't want everything to not workout either. I made this AU with the idea in mind on how much change a person can have. How much one person driven by themselves and their believes can do. I aspired, with this AU, to entertain the idea that the fate of a story as we know it takes a turn. I love reading the AU's here on tumblr, small drabbles or one-shots 'AU, Team Black Won' or 'AU, No war' or 'AU, No one died' etc. But what if the war still took place, if the winnign as per say wasn't perfect and countless still died? That's pretty much this AU. An AU where the North birthed a daughter and not just a son and that daughter went on to hunt the narrative of the child that ended up being the song of Ice and Fire. The child made from a Targaryen and a Stark. A child who ended up changing everything while the world still ended up spinning the same course, but for that one fraction in eternity, it changed into a beautiful moment to be cherished and dreamt of fondly. Not necessarily by Westeros, by the characters, but by the consumer of the story, in this case, me, as all of this I consider to be self indulgent. After all most artistic projects are self indulgent when you do them for fun and not with the purpose of anyone else in mind. I hope this cleared up any sort of wonders about why I posted my writing samples the way that I did :). There is also an AU where Jacareys Velaryon x Stark!Reader is pre-established with a different plot all together instead of happening during The Dance of the Dragons and in this one Lucerys survives! It's amazing how much easier it would be for the writers to... write a good story, if they could just admit that the Blacks are the protagonists. If they focused on depicting complex narrative heroes against complex narrative villains echoing the Starks against the Lannisters.

After all, you don't see many complaints that the Starks/Lannisters lack "nuance." You see people liking characters on both sides, understanding people on both sides, but mostly agreeing that the Lannisters are more in the wrong. And I do have to wonder how much that refusal to do the same with the Blacks and Greens comes from a refusal to engage with the ideologies in conflict. Because in a lot of ways, the Dance is a lot less "rich people and their personal quarrels" than the Stark/Lannister conflict is.

Oh, it absolutely is! Misogyny is a definitely shown in the HotD universe and it as the impetus behind Rhaenyra not being accepted as a rightful heir. However, much of the pathos of the sexism gets easily directed towards how Alicent is implied to be somewhat justified in trying to get Rhaenyra to conform or at least to obey the authority she seeks for herself bc she, Alicent, "deserves" to be compensated after being raped into birthing 4 spares for the Targ dynasty. AND it dilutes the ambition from both of these women, relegated them to reactors to their power taken from them more than makes them reason to find more agency and authority. Tries to focus more on how they both think they are doing the morally right thing instead of trying to reveal Alicent's desire for power not just over Rhaenyra but desire for status through her son AND for Rhaenyra to have the pride of heritage and experience of real rule to and Viserys choosing her to have the throne. Not to mention how both women think they are also following viserys' direction, the male authority's direction more than their own desires/interpretations.

So the show contradicts itself and reaffirms feudal paternalism.

The Boy in the Walls

Chapter 1 (first/next/previous)

Have you ever had something mysteriously disappear? Or maybe you noticed small noises in the walls. Or even seen a small form out of the corner of your eye? If so, then you probably have mice or rats and can forget about it. Just ignore any signs of suspicious things going missing. Don't try and find out more, and do not under any circumstances set traps.

...Okay, I'm joking. I obviously do not think it is mice, I do however, believe you should do the ladder options by ignoring it and not bothering with anything related to it. Because if you don't, you will cause unnecessary fear and anguish to some poor being.

I shall elaborate. What I mean is simply this, there are beings that live in our world that are not quite animal, but not human either. These beings reside in the walls of our homes and take out things, freeloading off of what we are unintentionally providing. No, these are not mice, or rats, or whatever exocentric thing you can think of. For these beings are beyond our plebiscite ways of grasping the supernatural.

These beings are known as borrowers. They are sentient, humanoid creatures that are no taller than your pointer finger. And one of these creatures in particular is the protagonist of our story. It's, or rather, his name was Oliver. He, like many other borrowers, grew up knowing and learning to fear the humans or, as they called them hosts.

Oliver was a relatively decent height for a borrower, 3 5/8 inches tall, he had wavy blonde locks that never seemed to be neat. The most unique characteristic that Oliver had, were his ears and tail. See, most borrowers are identical to humans, the only difference being their height.

Oliver however, he was a hybrid. See, his mother was a normal borrower, and his father was a brownie. Brownies generally have more rodent like features. So Oliver shared the mix of looks from both of his parents. He had a fluffy blonde tail with a tuft of hair at the end. He also had the mouse like ears from his mother.

There were other distinctions that scattered throughout his body. The galaxy of freckles that scattered about his form, and the odd shape his face and nose were formed to.

Oliver had been living at his hosts house for little over a month, having come of age and moved out. The boy worked hard to become a good borrower, and when he finally set out he felt he was prepared for his new life. but the journey was rough and when he arrived at the complex system of college dormitories, his host seemed to have no schedule at all. for one thing, they would stay up all night on their computer and still wake up early.

His host didn't seem to even have a consistent diet either, sticking mostly to packaged producers that were near impossible for borrowing. Oliver was weary of the stale and unhealthy food with witch the human had been buying recently. But there was no possible way to change it, 'you get watcha get' Oliver's father used to say when the boy complained about the lack of variety in their diet.

He needed to know when the host would be distracted enough for Oliver to get food. so far it had been about a week since he had borrowed and 3 days since he had last eaten.

Oliver was already a scrawny boy so it didn't help his composure at all.  He was quite pale and skinnier then most borrowers. one day, in the late afternoon, Oliver's host was busy doing something in its room, so he decided to go out borrowing when the human was preoccupied.

he set out to the kitchen with his hook and borrowing bag. Traipsing through the musky, dark, tunnels that he had constructed over his month of living in this new house he made his way to the kitchen. it had taken him most of his time in his new home so far to construct, and mine out those tunnels. plus. the borrower had to remain completely silent whilst doing so, or risk being discovered.

Oliver entered from a chipped tile which he had found upon arriving at his new home, and began heading towards the cereal cabinet. the boy propelled his hook at the cabinet door. his recycled fishing hook flew upwards with great speed, it made a slight thwack. Oliver cringed at the sound but kept going. he climbed up the thin rope, which was quite the task, the cabinet being over 30 feet to him. Oliver heaved himself up into the cabinet cautiously.

the cabinet was a lot larger on the inside then it looked. it was dark, but not uncomfortably so. Oliver inhaled the warm scent of grains. the borrower looked around the expanse of boxes, examining each one carefully. finally he found the one which he had been looking for.

Oliver pulled out his knife and cut into the cereal bag. the thick plastic was hard to cu into at first, but after a few tries, the boy was successful. Once he had grabbed enough food to last him a few days, Oliver began to descend the rope, quite thankful that he had his climbing gloves on. he was about 12 feet from the counter top when the knot holding onto the hook came undone.

have you ever been in a situation so scary and shocking that everything seems o slow down? well that's how Oliver felt. Everything went in slow motion, Oliver began plummeting towards the ground the room spinning around him as he fell. Then all at once Oliver landed in a painful heap, twisting his leg in an awkward position causing him to yelp in pain. despite the pain, Oliver still got up, staggering, and causing his head to spin.  he looked up to his now detached hook, still planted firmly on the cabinets wood.

Before HOTD revived a lot of activity, people would be like, "Damn, HBO did a finale so bad that they killed a fandom in a way that's never been done before or since."

As if The 100 creative team didn't watch the GOT fallout and say, "Hold my beer."

.:WIP Preview:. Seventies AU SanSan written entirely from Sandor's POV

Tor chuckled and Robb glanced over his shoulder at them, shaking his head as they moved past boxes and piles of packing materials. They don’t listen to anyone but her half the time. He said it in a frustrated tone and they were following him and it was all normal, passing what looked like a room that was going to be a living room and into a room that was apparently the large dining room with the kitchen nearby.

They all jumped and Robb’s hands went into his hair as he yelled… Sandor just barked out a shocked sort of amused sound while Theon? Theon howled with laughter, falling against the wall and clapping loudly… Tor froze and Sam and Gilly just looked shocked as hell! Because they walked in… and there was a boy standing there wearing what looked like a football helmet… they heard him call out Robb, look! I found my helmet! Right before a girl who looked to be a little bit older than him fucking whacked him in the head with an aluminum bat, the ping echoed through the room and the boy went down only to pop back up and hold his arms up victoriously.

Sansa came rushing in and wrestled the bat away from the girl. No, no, no, no! No hitting your brother in the head with a bat, Arya Stark! – He’s fine! Look! We have to test the equipment, San-sah! – San, I’m fine, see?! It worked like it’s supposed to. He shook his head as Sansa tried to wrangle these two kids… she held the bat in one hand that was also holding a kitchen towel… and then using the other, grabbed each child one after the other by their upper arm and directed them out of the room. Go wash up for dinner!

She snapped at them before she shot an angry look at Robb and then at Theon, holding her hand up in question. Just stand there and watch, huh, Robb? Robb held his hand up. I just walked in the room! What was I supposed to do? Flash Gordon myself over there?! Chill out, San! His brow shot down and he felt the sudden urge to tell Robb to back the fuck off… it was clear to him that Sansa was stretched way too fucking thin at that moment. But the woman just took a deep breath and held the bat up towards him. Go. Put. This. Up.

Character Development according to D&D

Emmy Award Winning writers D&D: So in the 2nd worst episode of Game of Thrones ever, we had one character explain why the emotional and physical abuse she suffered in the worst episode of Game of Thrones in history was actually……… justified.

So I've got good news and bad news about the next major bit of lore I'm preparing for HEA

Which one do y'all want? And I think I'll only share one, don't wanna spoil too much

Bryan Cogman in a podcast talking about how he labored for two weeks writing a Sansa-Theon scene where they just discuss things that happened to them - he ultimately ended up not having that scene in because people already know about what happened to Sansa and Theon.

But he could not spend a day laboring on Jon introspecting about how his whole life was a lie and Ned and Lyanna and Rhaegar? What about a little scene where Jon has a little talk with Sam about this? Since Robo-Bran is unfit for these conversations. Or a little scene with Jon and Arya discussing everything that has happened to them?

It sort of sucks that the first two character episodes where written by Dave Hill who is average at most and then Bryan Cogman who gravitates towards certain characters he likes - he admits in the podcast that he spend so much time writing in scenes with Sansa and Theon because he wrote a lot for them earlier and wanted more of them for his last episode on the show. He’s also a fan of Jaime, Tyrion and Brienne.

And that’s why we got so much Jaime and Tyrion sitting and talking around and nothing for Jon and Arya who reunited for 2 minutes and that’s all we have despite these guys not seeing each other for 7 seasons.

Well, the next 4 episodes are David and Dan. Let’s see what they have to offer.

I wish GRRM would write the bloody books and give us at least one more book. Because, at this point, I am only waiting for the ending. So I know how everything ends for characters I like in a series I have been following for some 20 years.
