The Holiday Special's just there to show how much they all love Peter.
Like Kraglin's line about Peter becoming the greatest hero in the Galaxy which, objectively, isn't true but it FITS because that's what he is to this group. He's their leader but more importantly he's their heart. He brings them together through his complete earnestness and sincerity. He wears his heart on his sleeve and all he's ever wanted is love and he loves so intensely. And this special just celebrates how this has rubbed off on his family and the way that they love the same way because of him.
