How do you get over post-concert-depression? I still can't listen to Priest's new album because it makes me sad I can't see them until their next album's release
Going to more concerts. LOL. Oh, but it’s true. I feel significantly better after having attended The Hold Steady this past weekend. Prior to that, I was a mess. Sitting on the beach listening to Quadrophenia and crying type of mess (in fairness, I do this a lot, but it was extra bittersweet this time around).
Basically, you find something else to look forward to to hold you over. I find it helps to dive into tangential but otherwise more accessible or low-key stuff. If Priest is not touring anytime soon, perhaps there are related acts who are, or really anybody else who will give you an opportunity to go out and have fun and who is not going to rip your heart out in the process. If I go to a high-emotional-investment show, I ease the blow afterward by stopping by a local club the following Thursday or Friday night, even for somebody I’ve never heard of, for an enjoyable outing where the stakes aren’t so astronomical. Eases the withdrawal symptoms! And hey, you might discover a new favorite that way. It’s happened to me before.
Give yourself time. You’ll come back to the album when you’re ready.
